I would think it will take some real creativity to make a nice leather case for the N810 (give the sliding keyboard below).
Has anyone actually seen a successful case design for a similar procuct?

I'm not sure whether the N810 ready for the harsh reality in my bags. Thus, I was looking for something tougher than leader, maybe a metall or hard plastic case.
Any ideas?

I've seen THIS (http://cgi.ebay.es/Leather-Case-for-Nokia-N810-Internet-Tablet-Book-Black_W0QQitemZ220188150902QQihZ012QQcategoryZ2036 7QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p16 38.m122) on eBay, some Hong-Kong leather cases for the N810. I'd like to have the Alu-Leather Case from Proporta though, if it was available for the N810....hope they think about it.

I'm in the process of designing my own custom case for my N810 - I've almost got all of the details worked out, just having a problem with what to do with the kickstand if anything... There's this German guy who hand makes custom cases - they're called FreaQs (http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&langpair=de%7Cen&u=http://www.freaqs.de/indexEng.html). I've heard from numerous buyers (Palm users) that they are very well made and well worth the money.

I ordered that case from the Hong Kong ebay guy and it has shipped, I will post more pics and give my thoughts on it when it arrives. Might take about a week because of my schedule, but I will get it to everyone ASAP. That model you put a link for was for the N810.

I'll be interested in a mini-review/1st impressions! I do not yet have a device, and I'm excited about getting one but I'm dreading having to find a good protective (but small) case.
For my ref here is link to the seller that (hopefully) will persist:

the description for the case is "Leather Case for Nokia N810 Internet Tablet Book/Black".

You're welcome ;). I'm interested in your impressions. About the case I don't know if I'll wait for the alu-case from proporta to be made (it shouldn't take that long since they have one for the N800) although it is much more expensive than that hong-kong one. But just in case I want to know if the case is worth the money. I want a screen protector too, I've seen the anti-glare washable ones in PDAir but maybe those asian ones are just as good (and cheaper).

My Zaurus SL-C860 lives in a PDAir "book type" leather case and I like it. The PDAir case seems a bit stronger than the one Nokia ships with the N810 and using the device without removing it from it's case is certainly comfortable. If the N810 came with no case, I'd certainly get the one from PDAir but at the moment it seems redudant, the Nokia case is similar.

Sorry about that... It's an old link - I've had it bookmarked for about 6 months. Guess he's fixed his pages so that they don't need google translation anymore. Thanks for posting the corrections :)
EDIT: Just fully checked out the English version of the site and not all of the links are translated - at least when using google translation, any links are automatically translated as well. So I guess I'll stick with my google translate link for now.

Today I received the leather case I ordered from ebay from the seller in China. Very fast shipping to New York. This seller has three styles available, but I got the "book type". The case is great and fits my N810 like a glove. The only thing more perfect might be a hard shell case, which doesn't seem to be available yet. I don't think it shows up well in the auction, but there is a clear plastic panel across the bottom that the keyboard slips into. It doesn't affect the closing of the unit over the keyboard. I was afraid it might be difficult to type through the plastic, but I haven't had any problem yet. I rather like that the keyboard is protected. It's also nice not to have to remove the tablet from the case to use it, like the one that came with it from Nokia. The leather quality is quite good (smells nice too!) and is well constructed. It's handy to have memory card slots inside the cover too. Packaged nicely too. Here is a current auction listing, which may have expired by now (seller is "siemshop"):

Highly recommend! :)

Hmm... I was wondering how it stayed "attached". You're able to type through it well though? And the dpad still works well?
I wouldn't had guessed a layer of plastic could sandwich in between the keyboard and the rest of the case when closed.

Hi again,
Here are some quick pics I took of the N810 in my new case:
http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4232356&a=32629865&p=76076355&f=0
Hopefully you can see that it fits quite nicely. The plastic is tough, but still thin enough to type through. Sometimes I do use my fingernails (mostly on the scroll keys), but at least the keys are protected from getting scratched.

Ok here's another interesting item from Hong Kong ebay guy's store... a car mount that is supposed to work with those leather cases. Can one of you who owns the case confirm if the pictured clip mount is compatible?

Despite what the description says for the "book type" case from siemshop on ebay, there is no belt clip on that model. The back is smooth, unlike the one pictured in junred's auction for the same style case (for more money). Personally, I think I prefer not having the belt clip. But if you want to use the car mount, you may need to get another style or the one from junred or directly from PDair.com (although, that might not have a belt clip either).

I just ordered the holster type and screen protector for PDAir. I prefer to not have a leather case on it when I am using the device. I like the feel of a naked device in my hands (ok thats just wrong)...
I will post some pics and comments on bothe screen protector and holster when it comes in.

Here are my ideas for a clever case :
1. Something with a couple of wide elasticated strips on the back (in horizontal & vertical directions, cleverly positioned to not enterfere with each other).
So that you can slip your hand through it such that the device sits in the palm of your hand. Can be used in Landscape or Portrait since you have straps in both directions.
I know Maemo don't work portrait yet, but I'm thinking long term :)
2. Having a flip cover is fine, but have the securing loop on the flip, not the bottom where it annoys you while trying to use the keyboard. Make it wide, so it protects the bottom of the device when closed, but the stand is still available when open.
3. Have a clear plastic in the flip, so you can still see the screen. The material type that you can still poke your finger through. But with a hard (still clear) insert for those that are willing to forgo access for extra protection.
4. Don't stick memory card slots in the flip, just where they would come into contact with the screen. Just means that they might scratch the screen if the unit get a knock.
Just a few ideas...

i planned to order the pouch-type case they were selling because i didnt like how it looked like the n810 was being held in (compression on some of those leather tabs??).
after seeing closer pics, i realize that its held in with the plastic sleeve on the keyboard. damn!
turns out i ordered the book-type anyway. haha!
im up in alaska, so im not too surprised that i havent received it yet.

I ordered the belt-clip style case for my N810 from the hong king ebay seller mentioned on the first page of this thread. it arrived today and I'm very pleased. We'll see how it holds up over time, but it looks and feels like quality construction. Even came shipped in a nice box with a little bag of silica candies. mmmmmmm ;-). Shipping took about 2 weeks from Hong Kong to Montana. The pictures on the auction pages are quite accurate and give a very good indication of what you're getting.

Withe the book-type, do I understand that you have to take it out of the case
to use the flip stand or the USB port, or to swap the mem card?
How much of a nuisance is that?

Is anyone else using the "book type" with the clear plastic over the keyboard? Just looking for some more feedback on it, especially how well the keyboard works underneath it.

I am. The clear plastic really doesn't affect typing at all. In fact it gives it more of a spongy feel instead of a cold metallic click. The only thing you have to watch out for is if you get the clear plastic crumpled in any way, because then it makes it difficult to put the Nokia back in the case; it's keyboard in first, close the rest over the plastic. Bottom line is I don't think you'll be disappointed at all with the fit and the quality and as far as typing, yes it's all about getting used to typing on a different feel, but then it becomes second nature.

how about this one.. does anyone have this type of case and can you give some feedback on it. I'm particularly interested to know if you need to remove the 810 from the case in order to use the keyboard. Also, does it close with magnetic studs or are they the type that snap in.

Another Q with folks with the the booklet-type case (like this link below):
The location of the extra memory card slots makes me think that with the slightest compression, those extra cards could touch/scratch the surface of the screen. Is there some sort of gap or contact I don't see that keeps these from reaching the surface of the 810?
http://cgi.ebay.com/Leather-Case-for-Nokia-N810-Internet-Tablet-B-T-Black_W0QQitemZ320208370221QQihZ011QQcategoryZ2036 7QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

took another look at that issue for you; it's like the front of the case is curved enough that the extra memory cards would never actually come in contact with the screen when closed ( peeked through the opening when the case was closed to see if that was a fact ), so the chances of cards touching it are pretty slim even when grasping the booklet case in your hand because the flap that covers the screen seems to be pretty solid and like I said has a small curve to it, so it would take a lot for it to actually come in contact with the screen, so I think you are good to go there.

I have the case that is listed on ebay, overall it is a nice case and it keeps it well in tact, the only issue is when using the keyboard it can be a real pain to access it since the top slides up and the plastic that they do not really show you in the photos keeps the unit snug. This causes you to really take the N810 out in order to flip up the screen to use the keyboard. Is it better than the one they give you? Definitely, although it is not the ultimate case for it, perhaps one will come out later that supports the N810 better, until then I will keep the case because the cost is low and it does protect it much better than what is included in the box when you buy the N810. I will put some photos and perhaps a video of the case so others can see it in action.

I also just received the same case. The outside front lower right is stamped 'Carry Mobile'. The N810 fits well in it, and the plastic does not seem to snag the slider either going up or down. It's a good question as to if memory cards in the two slots in the inside upper portion of the case will over time scratch the screen. I'd say miniSD cards will not, particularly if you put them in sideways although this will make getting them out more difficult. A SD to miniSD adapter, being larger, has more of its surface exposed and might be more likely to scratch. This would, I suspect, depend in part on where/how you store the case. Somewhere where the cover was constantly bumped would increase the odds.

Thanks for the video review! It's good to have a close up look like that. I don't like the plastic keyboard cover, it doesn't seem all too secure, and it makes it a little clumsy to extend and use the keyboard. I don't think I will be getting one of these.

The case I have for my old Fujitsu Stylistic 500 has straps such as those you envision, though on the Stylistic's case they run diagonally to form an "X", not horizontally and vertically. Such a configuration would seemingly work well for Internet tablet cases also.
(And for Hedgecore, the Stylistic's case wasn't leather.)

I have this case - love it. It is made to have the plastic sleeve just slide over the keyboard, not the whole unit as done in the YouTube video. The plastic sleeve over the keyboard does not affect the unit when you slide in the keyboard.

The N810 is VERY tough. My oldest son accidentally knocked mine out of my hand and it flew a couple of meters then skidded a bit odwn our concrete driveway. No damage other than scratches (grrrr!) on the battery cover.
I'll bet a tough but flexible leather cover with short, fake fur lining would be ideal. I like Moon's idea about a case that accomodates the keyboard, too. With my wife's sewing skills I should be inventing these things...

I've just bought the Proporta case for N810. Just superb. Looks and feels good and the plastic cover over the keyboard means you can use the IT without removing it from the case. It has a little plastic tab to stop the IT slipping out of the case but I've removed it since the snug fit keeps the tablet in place anyway.
Expensive but with the alu protection and quality feel, worth it, I'd say. No, I don't work for them!

I've got the Nokia leather case and while quite nice I can't seem to stop it from sending touchscreen events when I open and close it. I thought a screen recalibrate (to fix the app category change issue) would solve it but it will still give false taps.

I've bought one of the book model leather cases with the plastic over the keyboard.
While I find it really nice (although a bit bulky) and protects the device quite well, I have found that the slide switch doesn't work when the n810 is in the case and it is always in "open" position, no matter if the keyboard is closed or open.
Also, I think the plastic has moved or loosened the switch, because now I have to press the lower right corner of the screen when I close the keyboard to move the switch to "close" position.
Do any of you have such problems?
