How about "I sold my 770 to buy an N800, and will do the same with the N800"? Glad to know some of you want cheap N800s -- we need each other!

Or how about, I don't own any and am undecided between the N800 and N810, and want to see what happens to the prices before I choose one?

I'm watching the prices, but unless the n810 drops drastically.....

I just don't have the cash to pay $500 on a device, even if I'm planing on doing some dev work for it :(

Own N800, will definatly not buy N810. Even if I didn't have a N800 already, I wouldn't buy it as I never use GPS (and a bluetooth GPS is only $50) and the price differnce is to much, considering a bluetooth keyboard is only $80 (wich IMO is more usefull too!).

Typing in all caps does nothing but make sure your opinion is ignored.

By the way, the mapping software is free.. routing and voice are not. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Keep using Maemo Mapper. It's not like the N810 is even meant as an upgrade anyways, but a way to bring the tablets to the mainstream.

I'm seriously sick of all your negativity. It's clear that you expected miracles and to have your quad core CPU on the go for nothing. If you hate your purchase so much, just go away and stop trying to bring the rest of us down.

Sorry everyone... it had to be said.

Jay, I hold a strong opinion on things because I hope that it will find its way back to the developers/marketing people of this product. We all know that Nokia employees, journalists, etc read this website who are directly related to its production and planning.

I love gadgets, I love toys, and I love useful items that make my days easier to deal with. Id rather say, out loud, what many users on this board feel. And, from the look of the poll so far, it seems many share at least part of my opinion.

So why do I get angry? Simple, because companies dont make the best product they can. And I hate saying that Apple seems to be the only one who gives a crap. I dont like Apple, but I respect what they're trying to do. They're trying to make technology easier to use.

Take the Nokia N95 8g for example. It has an amazing list of features, and Ill never buy it. Why? Because in order to put the bigger screen on it, they had to reduce the navigation cluster even further. They've got 10 buttons squeezed into the space of a stick of gum. Honestly Nokia, are you kidding me?

look at this for example: http://europe.nokia.com/A4142117 (Nokia 6131 phone)

under tech specs, they have this listed:

"Clearly separated keys for easy dialing and messaging"

Amazing. Then they totally forgot about it.

If you dont get mad about poor design, its because you've never used a great product before.

current market

N800 $240
BT keyboard$?
BT GPS $50

The N810 will discount RAPIDLY to $240 + BTkeyboard + $50 + $50(for being a new toy).................Yup, there is my scientific calculation or crystal ball for the N810 real pricetag.

Missing an option.. "I own an N800 and will definitely be upgrading it to OS2008. I may also end up buying the N810 solely for the transflective screen, and GPS, and smaller size, for outdoor use."

It's clear that the N810 isn't really aimed at current owners of the N800.. it's just a more mainstream version of it.

This Poll Does No Longer Support My 770!

How dare you! Of course I keep my 770 until Nokia (or another company) comes up with something thats worth the upgrade/change. Neither the N800 nor the N810 fulfill my requirements.

I couldn't find the option for:
"I own the Nokia N800 & StowAway Keyboard, and I'm looking to sell it so I can buy the N810." (http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=85596#post85596)

If any of you N770 or N-less folks want a N800 + 1GB SD + ThinkOutside StowAway keyboard for $250 (USD), you'll make my migration to the N810 that much easier. :D

The option I would vote for is the following:
Had a N800, sold it to get at HTC Advantage, was waitng for the HTC Shift to be released, changed my mind and just bought a used 770 because I like the design, will buy the missus a N800 and a N810 for myself asap

cairn
10-22-2007, 03:21 PM
Missing Option: Own an N800 and will buy the N810 (well, I'm considering it anyway). If the price is in the $350 to $370 range (in US dollars), then I'll probably buy it, but otherwise I'm sticking with my N800 and buying a bluetooth GPS unit for about $50.

At first I was feeling pretty strongly about just continuing to use my beloved N800 with the dual SD slots. Having the GPS would be nice though and the transflective screen is a huge plus.

Interesting to see how the poll is going.

Personally, if the device comes out at $480 im going to pass on it. For what I specifically need, its too expensive to justify selling my n800 and paying the extra $$$.

It needs to come out at no more than $400 for me consider buying it. I think $375 would seal the deal. Or they could charge $450 and throw in the navteq subscrition.

Not that it is a big concern, but im leaning more toward a Samsung q1 ultra. Reasons being:

viewable screen outdoors (like the n810)
i can do GPS on it (like the n810)
i can watch any movie i want (not possilbe on n810)
it has a simple, awesome touch interface for music/videos (n810 does not)
i can multitask high memory operations (like run GPS in the back while playing a movie)

im tired of walking out to my car with an archos, a nokia tablet, my cell phone, and a laptop. its getting old.

Why is that not possible?
In OS2008 you get:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2349/1681906879_6f203d10d6.jpg
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2052/1682756866_3d238f9502.jpg
and mplayer that actually plays anything. ;)

And who needs GPS while playing a movie? Which also would be possible on with OS2008 anyway I guess.

Considering video watching, the improvement on the N810 release is definitely real. For instance google videos (video.google.com) - if you download any movie they have for "Sony PSP / iPod video" there, it plays along really nicely also on the N810. (Well, except for one interesting bug.) But full screen really smooth video anyway, even I was suprised over how good it was. :)

I'm own n800 and probably will buy n810 if (and when) reasonable priced. As a features I see keyboard, GPS and smaller size. But as a major drawback I see one SD mini slot vs TWO FULL-sized on n800. I'm surprised that Nokia did stupid thing and removed this killer feature :(

Not that it is a big concern, but im leaning more toward a Samsung q1 ultra.

If I were to go that route, I'd get a pepperpad 3. I don't want a windows machine.

Though, I do like the keyboard layout of the q1 and pepperpad. I think it's the right ergonomic design, but I don't think you can shrink that down to work on something the size of the N800/N810. Wibrain is trying to, but the device ends up being too long.

I just bought the N800 two months ago (and, this is not a complaint) The retail price drop on the N800 hampers those that might buy an N810 if the resale value of their N800 were still what it was before the price drop.

There are also some things that I would have done different about the N810 (in order for it to be a personal 'must upgrade today' thing) ... and those two things combined make me stick with the N800 for the foreseeable future.

It does seem that the majority of users on the forum here are N800 owners who will also wait for the next big thing from Nokia : )

Hedgecore

I'll just say it again. The pissed off n800 users were like me (a 770 owner) when the n800 came out. I saved the $400 and will most likely get an n810. Wait for the n900 guys. You'll be less mad.

I agree with Zerojay. If Nokia *is* reading this site, I hope they're paying the poor bastard who has to sift through the gripes very well. You all know full well there's an opensource mapping program out there. I don't like / wanna pay for Windows, so I run Ubuntu at home. If you don't like / wanna pay for anything in the built in mapping software, run MaemoMapper.

Stay tuned for my podcast "Shoetying: You can do it big guy!" next Thurs!

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced Nokia wasn't looking to convert very many current/prospective N800 owners as much as pick up entirely new customers (and to a smaller degree try to repatriate disgruntled 770 owners). Note that I haven't been clued in to the Big Strategy. :D
