I just did a quick price check at PriceGrabber and you can surprisingly now get a Nokia N800 internet Tablet for just $235.60 shipped. The cheapest price on the list (before tax and shipping) is just $224. It is already quite a steal to get the N800 at this price, considering it can be flashed later on with OS 2008. It would be interesting to see how low it goes. Read the full article. (http://www.internettablettalk.com/2007/10/24/the-n800-how-low-can-it-go/)

What I think is a steal is that, less than a year I bought a N800, it is available at half of the price I payed for it without any new release yet.

Nokia should give us some discount coupon or money refund as Apple did with iPhone early adopters...

If I was concerned about money refunds I would have searched for a merchant with a good discount policy and thanked them for their policy. Even if I knew the price would be half two months later I still would've been happy to buy my N800 when I did, the price was competitive compared to everything else I wanted at the time. Looking forward to os2008 :)

On topic: is there still $10 coupons etc to make buy.com the cheapest?

One of the reasons I religiously avoid purchasing newly released products (especially Apple products) the depreciation is ridiculous. However this is one product (along with my iPod) that I haven't regretted paying full up for.

You can tell that a lot of the users here aren't mobile phone fanatics where its quite easy for your phone to be obsolete in 3 months :D . N800 is still the best gadget purchase I have ever made short of my first Symbian phone (3650) even though I got it for $400. I've said it before but I'll say it once more $250 is the perfect price point for these devices to have mass market appeal.

There is something better...5% off.

http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp?prid=84773074

gives you $12 off $240, for the math-challenged :o

Such a low price makes me wonder if it's true that the N810 will cost $475. If so, why to drop N800 price? I think they're making room for a new $350 tablet in the market.

Quite cheap.....258 Eur is the cheapest I can find in Finland.

I'd get one but I've already got a 770 and it's still perfectly fine for me.

EDIT, it broke yesterday, my second WSOD

Plus you can use the 5% off coupon to make it 11 dollars cheaper.

Personally, I'm going to wait the two weeks to see what happens when the N810 is released.

If you're willing to go tablet-less for a couple of weeks, the going rate at eBay for N800s is still surprisingly high. You might have to throw in some accessories as well to differentiate your offering, though.

I tried ordering one from the US since I couldn't find any here in Hong Kong and the courier rates are quite reasonable for a delightfully small package like the N800. Well turns out they weren't allowed to ship overseas due to export restrictions set by Nokia...

Anyway, Google did come up with this one: http://www.expansys.com.hk/p.aspx?i=144770

That's nearly 500 USD and they're shipped from the UK!

It's currently sold out at Buy.com, the price must have given them a ton of sales.

I wasn't even looking for a device like the N800, but the new low price got me interested. Price is a huge deciding factor when buying "toys" that you're not sure you "need".

And when I learned that the N810 wasn't a replacement version, and OS2008 would be available on the N800.... well I just HAD to buy!

Nokia should aim to keep at least one version of the device in this lower price range to attract new users like myself.

Oh, I meant to add, that the out of stock message that I mentioned was only there for a night, so it seems they've gotten more in.

According to one of the guys I spoke to at Nokia's N810 stand at the What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision Show in London today, the N800 will in fact be discontinued, just as soon as they sell all their existing stock. This was in response to me complimenting them on their decision to continue to sell the N800 as an entry level tablet, in parallel with the N810. Shame.

Worrying if true, as it's contrary to everything which has been said coming out of the Maemo team itself. I'd put money on the Nokia rep being misinformed, unless he's really connected with the NIT business.

I hope so too.

Nokia do not appear to have exactly done a great job visa-a-vis the accuracy of the show details:

The exhibitor details talks just of the N800, no mention of the N810 at all
http://www.bestofstuff.co.uk/hifistuff/show_ExhDetails1.asp?exhibitorid=exhiReg68

While the main show content page contains the following quote, "the UK launch of Nokia’s N810 Internet tablet"
http://www.bestofstuff.co.uk/hifistuff/show_link5.asp

And Nokia's stand was being used exclusively to showcase the N810 and nothing else. I'm really tempted to back today, last day of the show, and question them again, this time Jack Bauer style! Oh and maybe enter the prize draw again too. :D
