There is a German press-release which says mid-november. It should be the same for Poland.

 Unfortunately my N800 got broken but amazon.de repaid the whole price to me, so I am (desperately :( ) waiting for the N810 instead of buying a new N800.

It would be nice if everyone can post links of e-stores you know of, which will be selling N810 with internal shipping all around Europe (i.e to Finland) :)

I think the application timeframe for the maemo device program ends around the 6th or something, so it's safe to say that it should be available shortly after that date.

Sadly, the emoticon icons on the right of this comment box aren't working on my computer. If they were your screen would be full of the wide-eyed one with his mouth open. That mirrors my own expression right now.

I want to say that this is probably a mistake but, you know what? I think it might not be.

By the way, USA readers -- £499 is a little over $1,000. Or 719 Euros.

I suspect if you shopped around you could buy a flight to New York, buy an N810 over there, and bring it back to the UK, all for less than £499.

This seems to be way too much. The German Nokia press-release mentioned 450€, even if the UK has higher taxes (I don't know) it is still too much!
Thus I would think the date is also wrong. (Hopefully!)

Pretty good price considering I paid £260 for my N800 only a few months ago.

Nokia will be showcasing the N800 at this weekend's What Hi-Fi show:

I'm sure I heard somewhere they may also use this event to announce the UK launch of the N810.

Today at DigiExpo (Helsinki) I got the chance to "feel" the N810.

+ feels great in hand, nicely designed.
+ keyboard feels bigger than it seems in pictures
+ GREAT screen
+ youtube's videos http://internettablettalk.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif, in a watchable-way.

* I would like to have the fullscreen button on keyboard though.

In Finland you can pre-order from verkkokauppa.com ( 469€ ), I asked one guy from Nokia about the possible price for this and he said it's gonna be likely 550€ from Nokia's store :( 2x the N800's price right now.

Had a chance to feel this baby too today, at the What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision Show, London, UK.

I had concerns over the full-screen button too, although confident I'll adjust.

Didn't manage to win one at the show, so did the next best thing. I pre-ordered one from Micro Anvika who Nokia had partnered with at the show, offering a 5% discount off their £299.99 list price, down to £284.99, free delivery & 2 GB card thrown in. Not too bad.

Nokia quoted a release date of 28th (or 26th?), although the Micro Anvika sales person advised I should expect delivery in approx 1 week.
When I queried this with Nokia their response was along the lines of, "typical sales people."

As a bonus I got to chat with the star of the N810 promo video too! :D
He even took a pic of my N800... but only because he was impressed with the Proporta Alu-Leather case. So I took a photo of him taking the photo, of course! ;)

Like I've said in multiple threads, the software is near final release, but there remain some kinks to work out. If it's available at the end of November, that would be quite soon. I think everyone here can say they'd rather have a solid product, and undoubtedly we don't want to release anything less than our best. This testing process is quite thorough.

Got a look at the 810 at the What HiFi/Stuff Magazine show in London yesterday. The staff at the Nokia stand were quoting "end November" as a delivery date. Which is about what I was expecting. They were offering 5% off retail, free delivery and a free 2Gb card for orders placed at the show with Micro Anvika.

I have to say I was impressed with the 810. I had my 770 with me for comparison and the 810 was a bit smaller (about the size of the 770 without the silver cover) and a heck of a lot lighter. The keyboard also wasn't as jammed up against the rest of the device as I thought it would be, quite usable.

C'mon Nokia! I have money that I want to give you. The very least you can do is give us an idea when I can do that.

Quim Gil says:

We are silently working to get all the exact dates you are waiting for.
We will communicate them as soon as they are confirmed.

http://lists.maemo.org/pipermail//maemo-developers/2007-November/012897.html

This doesn't shed much light on the subject in the meantime, except to say that the Maemo team recognise it as a real problem.

Most of Nokia's products come out first in Europe, partly because they're a European company and partly because Europe is their biggest market.

However, from what I understand the tablets completely reverse the situation, they seem to be much more popular in America than in Europe, so it makes sense that the US gets them first (especially with Christmas just round the corner).

This doesn't shed much light on the subject in the meantime, except to say that the Maemo team recognise it as a real problem.

If the release version of the N810 is already on sale in America, then it sounds like European availability is out of the Maemo team's hands. AFAIK they just do the design work, they're not responsible for actually manufacturing and distributing it.

Indeed, but I also seem to remember this situation at the launch of the N800: end-users were getting devices before the discount codes would work.

Although the Maemo team will have no responsibility now, they're the best point of contact we've got to try and sort it out - or at least communicate clearly what the situation is.

And from what Texrat said in another thread, the tablet that are going to be shipped from on-line orders are flashed right before shipping. So this might well mean that we can get a newer firmware (by "we" I mean whoever gets it on-line from the Nokia online store).

There shouldn't be much difference (if any) between UK and US on the N810 just cos it isn't a full size keyboard.

That's a very very good point, Europe has so many different layouts (QWERTY, AZERTY, QWERTZ etc), and then there's the cyrillic alphabet to consider too.

That could well explain the N810 delay, and that might even explain why another Nokia device with a keyboard, the E90, took so long to come to market.

The company seems genuine enough though

Why would any genuine company be selling brand new just-launched products at huge discounts?

But don't take my word for it, there's lots of interesting links here, including where they stole their "about us" photo and text from:

Well, how about this for you....

Just bought mine today from Micro Anvika (the first one you come to from the tube station; there's actually three) on Tottenham Court Road in London :) :)

Here it is on their website (I saw it said "In stock", phoned up to confirm and got the second-to-last one they had just before they closed at 7pm)
http://www.microanvika.com/product.asp?PNO=NOK15002

However (:)), due to a misprint in their in-store paper catalogue I got it for £299.99 (just fifty quid more than the N800; I figured a tenner more than play.com was worth not having to wait 'til Dec. 5th :o)

Oh and a few posts back, there was some speculation about the keyboard? perhaps this will help :)

One entry on the Nokia sticker on the outside of the box (the sort with all the various bar codes/IMEI number in the case of phones etc) reads "UK Package" (or very similar - I left the box at my mum's earlier tonight) and looking at the keyboard - it has function-key shifted symbols (in blue in the top right of the key) for Yen, USD, euros and the uk pound sign. Seems to me (based only on that mind you...) it's one-keyboard fits all?

Couldn't see any country-specific references in the "About product" screen in control panel, but I haven't played with the thing much yet so could have missed something; otherwise looks like they might well all have identical hardware and software wherever you buy them (oh, except of course the charger!).

I'll probably be posting in the first impressions thread at some point, but happy to answer any questions here if anyone wants to know anything about the UK one?

Dan.

This is great news! Even if it is not availible in Germany, shipping from the UK is bettern than shipping from the US. (I case it is not availible in Germany before Christmas!)

Unfortunately I do not remember the on-screen-keyboard of my former N800, but were there umlauts on it?
Are there umlauts on the slide-keyboard?

Ah, hang on a second - looking for the onscreen keyboard (which I haven't figured out how to open yet/haven't even seen it!), I found the "Text input" menu in control panel.

By default, mine was set to "English, Nederlands"

The other options in the drop-down are...

Dansk, Norsk, Suomi, Svenska
Espanol, Francais (Canada), Portugues
Francais (France)
Italiano
Ruski

(the last one's in cyrillic and Francais/Portugues/Espanol all have the relevant diacriticals)

Right - after digging around a bit - seems you have to turn on 'pen input methods' to get the 770-style on-screen keyboard. It's got umlauts in the 'accents a-m'/'accents n-z' menus, none on the blue function-key keys on the hardware keyboard though...

My Nokia N810 rattles also. I believe there are 2 rattles actually. One seems to be the battery - both left and right toward the speakers and up and down against the battery cover.

Even with the battery shimmed, there is an additional softer rattle that I cannot isolate.

Rattles do not get better/worse when keyboard is opened.

yeah actually, they'd got them in the previous day (now the day-before-yesterday) - seems we all missed this one/wast total random luck I decided to try the MA website well before I thought they'd be out :\

Went back today to exchange the rattling unit, and there's at least one or two left between the three branches on Tott. Ct. Rd.

Be aware though - I overheard the sales guy demoing one to someone in front of me - they'll try to sell it to you for £330 unless you specifically point out the lower price in the catalogue like I did - lucky for me yesterday they kept me waiting for ages, so much so I got bored and started flicking through the catalogue :D

Well I guess I should be glad to hear they've now received stock. I just better receive it the next 24 hours.

I don't believe they're being 100% honest about the price as £284.99 was the special show price, 5% off R.R.P of £299.99. I reckon they increased the price after they realised most other retailers were pricing it significantly higher.

Not necessarily, I've seen US keyboards where the pound (£) sign is totally absent and replaced by the # sign (which the Americans also call a pound sign).

And even if the British and US ones were the same, it won't be like that across the rest of Europe as other languages require special characters such as φ and δ and ε which are so commonly used that they require dedicated buttons.

Aergh, hardware keyboards are such a mixed blessing at launch periods... :)

Micro Anvika rang me back today.
Was going to arrange courier to work, but turns out one of their dispatch team lives round the corner from me and kindly offered to personally drop it off 21:30 :)

Nice screen. Loving the keyboard, very welcome!!

Somewhat concerned about the screen. Top left (browser button) seems to have a little play and is noticeably less responsive. Hopefully this will settle down...

Well I can't say I'll ever use these guys again. They don't ship when they say they ship and you have to fight tooth and nail to get a tracking number out of them (And I still don't have one). Expensive and poor service. Not recommended.

I searched some info about Tbay... They are UK company. In this ad they say to ship only to Canada or US... and payment only with Money order... Smells strongly like a scam to me.

I did contact tbay directly (found contact info from alibaba.com) to inquiry if this is a real deal or if someone is using their company name as a bait... I'll let you know what happens. (If it is real... I buy mine first before telling you... :D)

I remembered Dan's tip when I went to Tottenham Court Road last night; picked up a Micro Anvika catalogue straight away and found the N810 advert with £299 in big bold letters. Then when I got to the till and they tried to charge me £329 I pointed to the advert, the sales girl had to call her supervisor over but he said straight away "yes I'm afraid we have to honour that". Nice one! (this was in their 53 Tot'm Court Road branch, a good walk up the road on the Western side).

Don't even need to check really, no genuine shop would ever sell a $450 tablet at $170 during the product's launch period.

It has to be a scam, there's no other explanation for such a huge price difference so early in the product's lifespan.

Thanks for the tip! Went to quite a few Micro Anvika stores on the stretch of Tottenham Court Road today before meeting the sales rep (David) at 53 TCR who was very helpful and managed to reserve one at Harrods. As all other stores were out of stock.

So I zoomed to Harrod's MA to collect it but when it was time to pay it rung in at £329.99. Catalogue in hand, I showed them the page advertising it for £299.99. They said as they were under Harrods they weren't able to correct to the catalog price. I left it alone.

Hehehe good to see/yes well done :D (I kind of reckon the price was decided at £299 at some point/when they printed the catalogue and the price hike came when they realised they had it pretty much exclusively? Fair enough of course, but nice that at least a few can get it for what's probably going to be the typical high street price quite soon)

Wow, high end pricing in Europe, 449$ US vs. a price around 449 Euro...in Swiss Francs 500.- (US) vs. 740.- (Europe), close to 50% price difference! Shipping/import taxes is about the same wether I have it sent to me from the US or EU.

So the only difference I see is the hardware keyboard layout (QWERTY withouth Umlauts in the US, QWERTZ with Umlauts in the European version). Can the keyboard layout be changed in the software settings, e.g. when I choose german as the N810's language, is the hardware keyboard layout changed as well?

Any other disadvantage of a native german speaker when buying an US version? All I know of is that Nokia has a 2 years european wide warranty (including Switzerland) for european devices, US is 1 year only. Any hint appreciated ;-)

Khertan, you seem to be in France and thus i have a question for you...
Is it true that now all the 1-13 wi-fi channel are activated in France or are you still stuck with 10-13 ?

Here it says yes to 1-13 channels with power limits on the 10-13 ones:
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_des_canaux_Wi-Fi
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi

But all the other docs i could find (mostly cisco, and home routers manufacturers) says the contrary (only 10-13).

Channels 1-13 are usable in France. There is a limit to the transmit power on some channels when outdoors, that's all. The decision was taken in 2003, you'll find the official text here:
http://www.arcep.fr/uploads/tx_gsavis/03-908.pdf

Arcep is the official regulatory body and the above document is directly from their web site. If you want it more official than that, you'll have to order a copy of the "Journal Officiel" yourself.

Hi All,

Nokia.co.uk must be close to selling the N810 as a Boingo advert on nokia.com leads to nseries.com with the following advert:
Buy the Nokia N810 online
Available now with free shipping
£309

http://www.nseries.com/index.html#l=campaigns,n810,boingo

Sadly, nokia.co.uk doesn't show the N810 when you click in the link, but the price appears correct. Expansys are still saying £374.95 with a 4 day wait. Misco say they have stock at £299.

Methinks I'll keep using the N800 until the OS update arrives, and I get a chance to see the mapping application for myself.

Denmark:

The device was for sale for a few days here two weeks ago. I got to order one through "Debitel". But as the N810 didn't show up, and hasn't shown up yet, I kept calling Debitel, and they kept telling me it was in stock and it was just a matter of time before they would ship it to me.

Today I called again and got an hornest reply. It was not in stock anymore(???) and they couldn't tell me when it would be in stock again.

So I called another shop: "Mobiludsalg". They told me a temporary date was given by Nokia: 2nd of January.

God Dammit. I hoped that I would get mine before christmas. But I don't think so anymore.

@martin_d and @afreakm

I just got mine from GLS.

The problem is really a invalid package number. The guy tried several times to scan the barcode of the package number but his device reported always an error. He said that the number starts with 000 and that is invalid. First he even said that he would have to take the package with him because he can't scan it and so I could not sign that I got it. But finally I could convince him that every GLS station on the way from the netherlands (there it comes from) must have had the same problem.

I'd guess it's because the tablets sell a LOT better in America than in Europe.

The American Amazon.com's sales chart has continually had the N800 or N810 in the top 5 or 10 for portable computers, whereas the European Amazon stores don't even have them in the top 1000. On the other hand, Nokia phones and smartphones sell much better in Europe than America. Same company, same products, but totally opposite sales patterns.

I think this shows a difference in markets, Europeans (and Asians, Africans etc) tend to go for things that look like phones whereas Americans tend to go for things that look like PDAs.

It's not just Nokia that has this difference, PDAs are virtually non-existent outside the American market because there's so little demand for such devices. Companies like Palm have virtually no presence outside America. I'd also guess that the iPhone (in its current form) will sell a lot better in America than elsewhere for similar reasons.

The tablets could be seen as Nokia's attempt to crack the American market, to complement their phones which sell well everywhere outside America.

I wouldn't read too much in to Amazon's sales charts. US versus Europe is probably skewed by the way Amazon operate the US site against the European sites. My experience of Amazon in Europe is that they are dreadful to deal with when it comes to new innovative products, yet there are other European online resellers that do it so much better.

Definitively no n810 for Christmas. I'm going to visit London in 3 days and I was hoping got my n810 before that... finally, it is still not available here (Switzerland).

It is coming here in Denmark. Mine, ordered a long time ago, is now ready for pickup at the post office. It's a great day.

linuxjoergen - how did you order the n810 in Denmark?

At nokia.dk it's not possible to locate the n810 - and at nseries.com, its not possible to order when entering Denmark as country.

Please let me know - as I'm dying to change my 770 for an 810
