I'm having an odd problem. I think some bad data in one of my email messages is causing the Email app to crash when it launches. Here's the steps:

1. Run "E-Mail" or "Open Inbox" from the menu
2. E-Mail opens to Inbox view Inbox with messages from 10/... (obscured by column width) displayed
3. E-Mail refreshes Inbox view with most recent messages (i.e. from 11/...)
4. E-Mail throws up an error dialog: "Error occurred"
5. On clicking "OK", E-Mail quits

At this point, I just want to delete the whole mail db and start over but I couldn't find any .mail or .osso-mail or similar in the directories I was poking around in. But basically Email is unusable until I can resolve this.

What do I need to delete in the terminal to reset Email? (Or is there a quicker way?)

I remember deleting the Mail folder in your home folder ('/home/user/Mail') purges everything, give it a try?

There isn't a /home/user/Mail directory. That's the problem -- I need to know where it is! here is "ls -a" for /home/user

. .kagu .osso-abook
.. .macromedia .osso-backup
.Skype .maemoscrobbler.db .osso-cud-scripts
.ash_history .maemowordpy .osso_rss_feed_reader
.bookmarks .mauku .rhapsody
.browser .mediaplayer-engine .slarc
.devicescape .mediaplayer-ui .ssh
.esd_auth .meta_storage .thumbnails
.gnome2 .mozilla MyDocs
.gstreamer-0.10 .mplayer apps
.helix .opera sshhome.sh
.icons .osso videocenter

Hmm, I may be wrong. :P How about /home/user/apps/email?

That was it.

So I mv'd the /email/Mail directory but still had the problem.

Then I mv'd the entire /email directory -- It brought up the "this is the first time, want to create settings" dialog, and *then* put the "error occurred" dialog on top of that!

It was driving me crazy! So I was thinking, it must be some sort of conflict with something newly installed, which got me thinking that maybe there was a memory issue, maybe a leak... and then I realized that I hadn't shut down the tablet in weeks...

So I rebooted the tablet.

And it works.

:*)

I guess the moral of the story is see if it survives a reboot, first. Or as they say on The IT Crowd, "have you tried turning it on and off?"

Thanks for the help! :D
