Will Wayfinder work at all without a subscription? just no voice guidance or POI?

It will work as a moving map and will find locations, including POI's... No routing or voice.

Any third party add-on to Wayfinder to offer routing and voice commands ?

Nav4all is working on a version and it will be free. I use it on my N95-3 and it works ok, but UI is lacking.

the gps in the n810 is very good- the maps are more accurate than the ones in my garmin gps (they actually get my house placed correctly- garmin/google maps/google earth have me about 200 ft east of where i actually am- n810 map has me correctly placed..

prk,

Have you by chance been able to get a sense of the GPS position lock time?

it is slooooow
the initial lock is close to 5 minutes (which was the lock time on my very 1st garmin - gps12) outside in the clear- that is the 1 bummer about the gps the other bummer is that it is a battery burner - not so much as it makes it unusable but you can see the battery go down- time to get a car charger

Sounds like how slow my N95 was...

I gave a quick look at nav4all page, but it seems it does the routing on the server, so I don't see what advantage it'd have over maemo mapper.

THanks for the response.

:(:(:( THat's how my Palm Vx with GPS Companion add-on was, 5 years ago. Very long initialization on clear days in the wide-open. 2 hour battery life or so. The lock on time is going to be a major point for me against upgrading to the N810. I love the keyboard & GPS idea. But I don't want to sit and wait 5 minutes every time I'm going to use GPS. Or have to fire it up inside 5 minutes prior, which may be a problem acquiring satellites.

The initial (first time, aka 'coldstart') GPS lock time will _always_ be slow. On any small consumer-grade GPS. It can take _very_ long in the worst cases. After that it should be much much quicker, even with the next-to-latest generation of GPS chipsets. Maybe half a minute, or a minute. Unless you're moving.. don't start driving until you've got lock. (The latest generation chipsets, e.g. Sirf star III, will re-lock even quicker.) And if you're travelling to another area and then turn on the GPS (e.g. flying to somewhere) then expect longer first-time lock times again.

WayFinder has not yet been laid to vote for download on its website.
It's too bad. Trial keys is possible without voices!
I try WayFinder on Russia Map - it's very bad maps and application. TomTom - what is the nice program :) But not implemented to Maemo...
Routs of Navicore is very not optimal. Many mistakes in maps. It's not seriouse program - it's a game.

Nav4all is maps only.
Routing is server-side gprs enabled only.
Vehicle tracking and tracing is still under development.
Already offered by free by third parties.
What is a format of Nav4all maps - vector ?
