Sorry if this has been answered. The forum search doesn't work for me, and the google search with site:internettablettalk.com came up with a big thread of people asking for grandcentral accounts, not answering the problem.

If you are using Gizmo to get SIP messaging, and use GrandCentral to get a local number to forward to your Gizmo account (If you don't get that, you can PM me and I will explain why you would want to). How can you answer on the n***???

I get a connected voice-call asking me to hit 1 to take the call, and then hit3-4 for do something fancy. But the Gizmo client on the n*** (for me the N800 with 2008) has no buttons to send a DTMF (the numbers on the dial pad, so you can hit "1" or "5 or...)". So every call goes to voicemail.

My goal is to give my mom an n8X0 and let her take her calls anywhere (that she has wifi. Her house, my house, my brothers' houses, cofee shops....) On a fixed income this is a huge month to month savings. She gets a gadget I love and she gets a service she relies on (plus a gadget I love :), did I mention that?

I can't quite show off the functionality until I get it working right. For my mom, working is the key objective. She doesn't care about the n800 or the 770 or the n810 or anything, just getting her calls is what she wants.

My brothers (who are less gadget seduced) can't see why I am even bothering, but the solution seems so within reach. Am I being gadget-crazed, or do you guys think this really can be a solution for someone who doesn't ever want to think about "porting an app"

On Gizmo you can activate the dialpad and then hit the number required. Messed me up for a while there but then I got it to work.

You won't hear the tone but it is sent.

I'll check it out when I get home. I tried hitting everything I could think of to get a dial pad, but now that I *know* it is there (rather than when I was hitting things and hoping) I'll be more dilligent and surely find it.

Thanks.

The part where it shows your contacts, the tabs there, there are arrows on the sides to scroll all the way to the right. Also, I believe that when you get a call, something pops up under everything that says "press here for dialpad"

Thank you guys, I had the same problem and finally found the dial pad.

However, practically speaking, how can you accept a phone call on your N800/Gizmo (OS2008) when you have to perform the following steps:
1) react to ringtone
2) click "answer phone"
3) minimize current window
4) in the window behind, scroll all the way to the right
5) tab "1" in the dial pad.

These steps do not work for me to answer a call in time, the call always goes to voicemail.

There must for sure be a short cut. What am I missing?

Thanks for your help....

This a real shortcoming with the GrandCentral scheme. This is what will cause people to not use GrandCentral ( unless they change this ). The call screeening function of the GrandCentral gets in the way!

I was using GrandCentral for months, and this call screener just causes too many issues. Don't bother with it until Google gets GrandCentral to change the way it works to make it more viable (user friendly).

Thanks guys, I found it. Man that is one little arrow (it's like the paging controls here on the forums!), but sure enough hit it a few times, and there's a dial pad! It disappears as soon as a call comes through, but with that tip that it was underneath, I went into the task manager thing from the left nav and was able to bring forward the dialpad and answer a call!!

Note that (at least in 2007 w/RTCOMM, and I'd assume in 2008) you can set up the built-in VoIP/SIP client to connect to your Gizmo account (look up sipphone on the forums). Then, when a call comes in, it will use your nokia-selected ringtone, unlock the screen, etc - works nicely. To get to the dialpad from there, you click the "answer" button (obviously), then hit the menu, "call" (or maybe "file" - it's the first one), and choose DMTF Dialpad. Ta-da!

I use it, and aside from really bad echo (which apparently is better in 2008), it works great!
