According to NokiaUSA.com it will be mid December (12/19/07 to be exact) when the next N810 units are expected. It looks like all of us "Fortunate 500" will have to wait till Christmas at least (I'm thinking it won't be until 2008 now myself) before we get to use the prized discounts.

Next time they may want to do a little more planning, to avoid frustration. Hype is one thing, but this is just painful.

This isn't just painful, it's insanity.

I thought the whole point of having these discounts was to help get applications ported earlier for endusers... but that's clearly not the case. What the hell is going on here?

I have to agree - why would they go to such lengths to attract 500 of the most eager people, then make them cranky with repeated delays? Hopefully the Maemo team has something up their collective sleeves - it's hard to believe this is pleasing to them either.

Come on, guys! Just wait a few months and you'll can find it with a 50% discount because a new model is going to be announced ;-)

Why should I wait a few months and get a 50% discount when I was promised more like an 80% discount at launch?

If the (majority of the) 500 developers will only get their machines late december, then that is just crazy and actually a disaster. The coupons were a great idea. Thank them for their efforts and help them port their apps sooner ... Don't make them wait in line behind other gadget/IT lovers.

I couldn't agree more. This state of affairs makes me crazy! I'm paying top dollar for mine to be one of the first to get it, and now it looks like the very people who really needed them (in order to be able to convert the apps for consumers like me) are going to be among the *last* to get them! Ack!

Boy, it is hard to defend Nokia when they keep making the kinds of big-company mistakes. They go to all this effort, then shoot themselves in the foot by pissing off the very people they were trying to please. I know the whole process of a product relase is unbelieivably complicated, but would it have been so hard to one individual on the team in charge of this, well in advance?

And, do I understand, corretly, that it's just a $75 off coupon? I thought, as did many, that the cost of the device was going be be $75 to the developers. Hmmm...that don't seem right.

No, developers have a coupon $100 end price for the N810.

There is another discount 'around' that gives $50-75 off the list price of $485-499 or whatever. I Saw reports about phone orders at $409 and online retailers (like provantage) taking orders at that price as well.

Thanks Icerabbit...nice to see that at least part of my grumblings were unnecessary and that the developers are indeed getting a good deal...when they can get it:rolleyes:

No, the lucky developers can buy their N810 for $99. And they don't necessarily have to own a N810 to port their app, at least with the (final) release of OS2008 for the N800 (when they already own the N800) - but that there are so few N810 at the release date and that a developer with the coupon couldn't reserve one is a joke.

/edit too slow... :-)

I hope someone at Nokia reads this thread. Lots of Open Source developers have to jugle their time, Work, School, Family, Whatnot.. Delays are understandable, however being left in the dark makes it IMPOSSIBLE to plan your time.
Personally I have some other projects ramping up end december/early january, if this -rumor?- is true this would set back my release schedule well into 2008..
