Hi, does any one have any idea what app I need to install to be able to make use of this built in web camera ? Of the default installed things for the N810...I can't seem to find any that let me make use of the camera that comes with the unit.
Thanks

To use it as a still-shot camera, Knips works under OS2008 on N800. It will probably work on the N810 too.

There's also a command-line program called Motion kicking around somewhere that worked under OS2007. Haven't tried it under 2008 yet.
Actually, I see two Motion apps...
https://garage.maemo.org/projects/motion/
and
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4869
I used the second one (docs here (http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/WebHome)), but the first one looks easier (http://behindmaemolines.blogspot.com/2007/11/new-version-of-motion-released.html).
BTW, the camera on the N800 is not very good quality so don't expect much... not sure about the N810.

Gizmo doesn't seem to spit out any video for a Nokia to PC conversation, all I get is audio. I see basic video options but the area where video would show up is X'd out on both ends.
And that Knips thing I can't seem to find the lib the guy uses for all his apps, the link he provides doesn't go anywhere. :(
Motion installs ok on the N810 but when I go to start it the LED blinks red once and nothing gets captured.

Can't help you with Gizmo, but search these forums.
For Knips there is a repository you need to add.

I just tried to install the Motion 3.2.8-both app from here
https://garage.maemo.org/projects/motion/
and on OS2008 the install fails when it tries to overwrite
/usr/bin/osso-voip-ui.launch
which is also used by an existing package (osoo-voip-ui)
So I guess it is not quite ready for OS2008 yet.

p.s. Dude, get a hare-cut. lol
So I see the N810 camera isn't any better than the N800 one. Too bad.

The version of motion I tried was 3.2.8 (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/motion/)
I agree, this camera really sucks. I have an old tracphone that takes pictures better than this.
p.s my bunny doll doesnt need a haircut ! :p

Hmmm... so you didn't get the conflict I did when installing. Interesting.
Maybe it took a picture but you haven't found it yet... I was just reading that when in SPY mode the default picture directory is /home/user/motion-capture so maybe in non-spy mode there is some other directory under /home/user ?
Well for anyone that wants to try the other one... motion-20070222.zip, I found a blog post that describes how to install and run it.

Adding link to another still-camera app, for completeness.
