I have looked but have been unable to find a comparison between the N800 and the N810. If having the slide-out keyboard is not essential, are the N800 and the N810 otherwise pretty much the same? What are the advantages of having an 810 over the 800?

Try this comparison (http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/2007/10/nokia-n810-and-nokia-n800-everything.html) from Internet Tablet School (http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/) to start with.

Hope this helps.

Yes this has been discussed to death, but probably difficult to find in those huge threads.

In a nutshell :

- Hardware performance is essentially the same (CPU, speed, memory etc.).
- Software (OS2008) will be common to N800/N810

N810 gets you :

- hardware keyboard
- builtin GPS
- transflective screen

N810 loses :

- FM tuner
- rotating webcam (fixed, forward-facing)
- storage capacity : 2 GB builtin + one mini-SD slot (vs two full-size SD slots on N800)

Also, the battery is not the same model.

Did I forget something important ?
edit: ah yes, the USB connector : micro instead of mini. Crap :-)

One more thing regarding the USB. It uses USB-OTG and has limited host capabilities (to the USB-OTG spec). This makes it possible to connect the N810 directly to other portable devices, without a hub or a computer intermediary.

The N810 is also thinner (in that it doesn't have the camera hump), and smaller in proportion than the N800.

IMO the N810 also looks nicer, though the difference is minor and largely inconsequential.

Also, the N810 costs a LOT more than the N800; 2x in fact!

Check out the links (http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10782) thread for lots of good information on the N810.

Is this different than the N800?

I connected a bunch of crap to my N800 last night after doing "echo host >/sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/mode"
with OS2008, no kernel patches or anything special, and they all powered right up and showed up in dmesg.

I didn't have any drivers to properly test any of the devices, though..

Also, the N810 is a little bit heavier. This may not be important to everyone, but it is to me. I think the 770 was an acceptable weight. The N800 is a little too heavy.
