Good Morning Fellow and Fella N810'ers,

I now have my N810, and my primary need for this was to use remote desktop anywhere I was. I know there were some apps that was able to run under OS 2007, but what about OS 2008? I've searched for this, but since it's so new I guess this hasn't come up yet.

Please, any links or insight would be helpful,

I have rdesktop installed, and it works fairly well (there are some issues typing some characters and right clicking). I'm pretty sure it's in the default repositories - just the repository it's in is disabled by default. Check in Tools->Application Catalog)

VNC viewer is apparently not yet migrated over.

I'm also using rdesktop on my N810 and it works well enough. My only question is: How do I press function keys F1 to F10???

I use a virtual keyboard on my PC for that. Click'n'Type is my favourite, still no right mouse click, but I can manage (just) without that.

Hope that helps

All right, that would work. But is there really no way to input the F1 to F10 keys directly by using the N810 built--in keyboard?

does the remote desktop work with a windows xp computer,
or only linux?

rdesktop is for WinXP (and other variants), VNCViewer is for linux, windows, mac (whatever) but is a bit slower in way of bandwidth. As people here are mainly opensource fans, at least in spirit if not always in action, vnc might have more focus.

What is vpn?
There are hundreds different kind of vpn out there, which one do you mean?
However I know for n8x0 are available openvpn and a cisco client for a protocol i never encountered (the most common one is not supported as far as I know) and maybe pptp.

I suggest you to search on this forum and on garage.maemo.org (at least).

Where I work we use a Cisco vpn 3005, and the vpnc-gui works great.

vpnc-gui is installable via the application manager - just browse all and you will find it.

Hope this helps,

Steve

P.S. I installed the remote desktop tool, but it will not launch - starts to come up and then closes down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also using rdesktop on my N810 and it works well enough. My only question is: How do I press function keys F1 to F10???

I just bought a N810 and the main reason for getting to connect to the net via a bluetooth phone and then to get on for remote desktop.

I found these instructions on how to setup remote desktop from Windows to Windows but how do I set it up using the N810 OS2008?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/remoteintro.mspx

Having the settings saved on my computer is easy enough but what are the instructions on setting it up on the N810?

I have XP Pro at home that I am using DSL Verizon and I have a Linksys wireless router cloud that I use to connect at home with.

Can anyone help me set this up or point me in the right direction on how to set this up? Much thanks

Eric

1) you need to install rdesktop v.0.4 to N810, gronmayer.com/it/ search for rdesktop and install from the first choice.

2) test with another pc to check the username/password/ip address that are working
3) fire up rdesktop from N810 and input the username/password/ip you learned from 2)

post back if Q

Nokian111 - there is no Remote Desktop Application that needs to be downloaded to the host computer (the desktop). It is a part of windows. That being said, it isn't part of XP Home - only XP Pro, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate, and the Windows Server operating systems. I am not sure if there is a hack that can be done to add RDP to XP Home or not.

You might also look at a Program called XPUnlimited. There is a free version that allows you to run 3 concurrent login sessions at the same time. If it works with XP Home, this would also solve your problem. EDIT - I checked and it doesn't seem to work with XP Home :(

If you cannot find anyway to make RDP work with XP Home, you might be forced to use VNC - in which case there is a program that you load onto the host machine.

Good luck.

Hi, I recently got an N810. I've installed rdesktop to connect with my vista laptop at home (which is usually connected through the house's wireless). I followed the instructions at missingremote.com
(http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:Iozw_YbNcwIJ:www.missingremote.com/index.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26task%3Dview%26i d%3D1220%26Itemid%3D224+vista+home+workaround+remo te+desktop+n81-&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a) to allow concurrent sessions and tried to connect, but n810 just tells me it cannot connect. Then I installed VNC Viewer/server on the n810 and my vista computer, but it still didn't let me connect to my laptop. I would really appreciate any help.

BTW, here are some other links I tried to follow, but that didn't work in my case:
