Does such a thing exist? I have two devices already that charge through a mini USB connection (three if you count my Zire but it is going away once I get the 770 running right).

So I already have 2 wall warts and a car charger that provide +5V through a mini USB "B" connector (same style connector as on the 770 data connection). I want to carry as few chargers as possible while traveling and would like a simple little adapter that slips on the tip of a USB cable and plugs into the power connector on the Nokia.

I understand why Nokia did not make the 770 trickle charge over USB, because of the USB host capabilities of the port. But they should have included this $0.50 part with it.

I don't think such an item exists as of yet, djs_tx; at least, I haven't seen it. I use the iGo travel chargers with interchangable tips to keep the charger I have to carry to a minimum. The chargers and tips (A69 tip for the 770) are available at most Radio Shacks.

Would this item work? An adapter to use prior Nokia compatible cables and/or cords.

I'm not actually sure I follow you here. The 770's host mode only works if you give it 5v into the USB port. Nokia could have definitely sucked power from the USB port without a significant impact on host mode. The main issue is that you'd need to make sure your power injector didn't produce enough current/voltage to charge the batteries.

I think that they've simply decided that Nokia devices charge from wall warts, not USB, and left it at that.

Yes, one of those will work. I use one myself with my old USB to Nokia interface cable - the 770 charges quite happily with 5v in. Interstingly, my n-gage requires a higher voltage, around 6v. The charger kit included an in-line box that converts 5v to 6v for use with Nokia phones. The n-gage will not charge without this booster; the 770 doesn't care.
