Just found and installed dropbear for OS2008 and while changing the root password for protection, I noticed the old "rootme" password no longer works. Did this change for the chinook build? Did dropbear remove the ability to ssh in as root? Anyone know? Thanks!

I do not use dropbear, but
In 2008OS, I had to use sudo gainroot, then changed the root password.
rootme would not let me in?
Install becomeroot or enable r&d mode, and use sudo gainroot

There used to be a way to get root access via SSH with the old dropbear by installing the server and then using "ssh root@<IP>" with the password "rootme".
I'm just trying to find out if I need to worry about it. If it's a new password, then I should change it to something that can't be exploited. But if root access is disabled, then I can forget out about it.

It seems not working anymore, You have to enable RD mode to log in into root.

Run flasher with the --enable-rd-mode flag set.
See http://maemo.org/community/wiki/rdmode/.
becomeroot seems to be the only fast way now, described well here:
