Hey guys I found a video of NeoPop, a Neo Geo Pocket emulator running on the N800.
Anyway one know where a download may be?
Check it out here (http://www.n800blog.com/blog.aspx?id=91&story=NeoPop_on_the_N800?).

go with gngeo.
very happy with the speed you got it going at tak.
but seems like i cannot get roms to load from the xmaeme frontend.
I did manage to play mslug4 at great speeds. (ran it from the command line)
neopop is the emulator for the neogeo pocket.
Yeah, we were discussing that on #maemo. Is there a significant advantage to neopop over gngeo?

guess its a xmaeme issue...

I have been getting the "unable to install gngeo" problem. It's on N800 with OS2007.
My failing install log is like this:

Unpacking gngeo (from .../gngeo_0.7maemo-1_armel.deb) ...

Errors were encountered while processing:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
After I mannually created `./media/mmc1/roms/neogeo', it got installed.

hi Matrix...yes, i followed your instructions of creating that directory and got it installed....GNGEo that is....now, how the heck can i load a rom??....I have a few game roms but each one has multiple files...is there a trick to loading them?...ie. a special folder??....XMAEME won't let me load any...is this a bug of XMAME??...and can they only be loaded with command-line??...if yes, what would be the method for that?
Thanx!---lookin forward to playin these games!!

how can I access these games from the command line? what is the command to run the games from xterm? when I try to run them I get this...
basicly it says these bios' are missing...
usr/share/gngeo/sp-s2.sp1
usr/share/gngeo/sfix.sfx
usr/share/gngeo/000-lo.lo
I dunno where to find them...

Zip the files, copy to your rom dir, and name the zip similar to the corresponding .rc file in /usr/share/gngeo/romrc.d/
Metal Slug 2 for example would need to be named mslug2.zip
Then run gngeo --optionsblahblah mslug2

Put appropriately named, zipped ROMs in your ROMs directory and BIOS files in your BIOS directory.

Whatever options you want, for a list type run gngeo with no arguments.
Here's an example command line:
gngeo --sound --rompath=/media/mmc2/gngeo/roms --biospath=/media/mmc2/gngeo/bios

To move them to /usr/share/gngeo you need root, alternatively you could put the files wherever you want and specify their path as a gngeo option:
gngeo --biospath=/wherever/you/put/your/bios/files

to run games from xmaeme. I notice that only certain roms work.
I found this site with xmame roms for the neogeo, and all the roms I DL(around 30) work.
guess a quick how to is in order.
To install GnGeo
1. create a folder /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo
breaking it down, you will create the roms folder and then create the neogeo folder inside the roms folder also if you want create
a xmame, vba, and fceu folder inside the roms folder.
2. Inside App Manager install gngeo, and you should not get the unable to install error anymore.
3. Now find neogeo.zip or neo-geo.zip - google should give up much results with no problem.
4. After locating neo-geo.zip or neogeo.zip. extract the files inside the .zip to /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios/
(/media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios/ should've been created when you installed gngeo. If it wasn't then create it.
5. Now going back to the top of this post. I located a website where all the roms I tried for the neogeo work.
I cannot post that link but if you would like the link, just send me a PM requesting it and i'll gladly send you a link.
some websites the roms don't seem to work.
There's a workaround for that, but I think its too much work for the average user. It requires editing files in /usr/share/gngeo/romrc/.
Pro's = speed on the emulator rocks.
Con's = The A,B,C,D on screen buttons don't show up on emulator start. I have to wait until the device go to sleep and then tap the screen in order for it to show the on screen buttons. Not sure why this is happening.
1 game out out of 30 I Had screen glitches, where gameplay wasn't possible.
Xmaeme frontend sucks.
With saying the frontend suck.

http://bbs.choplair.org/index.php
Going to try to get XGngeo to build.
My last attempt at doing so didn't go so well
because python2.5-pygame would not install
going to manually instal pygame and then try to build xgngeo.
PS. don't let that stop you from trying to build one of those frontends.

As a temporary workaround until someone figures out the problem, we could just blank the screen before starting gngeo.
Maybe hack up a frontend so it sends a dbus message before launch.

Just got xgngeo frontend built.
Will make a deb package for it when I get a chance.
as with all the goodies i manage to locate and build.
someone needs to take a look at it and hildon the damn thing.
but xgngeo is the definitely a better frontend.

I'm looking for a way to map the controls to my hardware keys on my n810. u can't play a fighting game with virtual buttons. or even using the D-pad on the n810 is ridiculous. I want to somehow map the qwerty board to use for movement and ABCD buttons.. is this possible. you guys are doing an awesome job. wish I could contribute to this project somehow.

..I'm CLOOOOOSE...I can feel it! :)

the game i'm playing is "wakuwak7"
and my bios files I dumped in this location: "/media/mmc1/play/neogeo/"

so the command is:

cool.....got gpilots and superspy workin!..havent gotten sound yet..running smooth...now we need the frontend working so as to specify options easier...
...actually GhostPilots is cooler for using the n800 controls than one of the fighting games....also, gotta somehow figure out how to incorporate Joystick usage in the frontend....easy for me to say! ha!...wish i was a programmer!! :(

yes, what's most important is the ability to remap the keys (for n810 users that is). fighters require being able to quickly tap buttons. but you are unable to do that on an n8x0 touchscreen.

Edit the p1key keycodes at the bottom of /home/user/.gngeo/gngeorc
I'm sure there's a list somewhere as to what key sends what code, otherwise you could use a program like "xev" where you press a key, and note the code it sends.

i run gngeo from xmaeme frontend,
I think you are confusing xmame and xmaeme
when you install the latest xmaeme and gngeo.
now when you run xmaeme you should see a NeoGeo tab.
xmame is what you use to run xmame roms.
xmaeme is the frontend for xmame, gngeo, fceu, and GBA.
the video i have on youtube shows me running gngeo from the frontend.

Then install xmaeme.
then run xmaeme.
hit the neogeo tab.
choose the rom
choose bios location,
which should be /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios/
then click on execute.
gngeo should install via application manager if you create the folder
/media/roms/neogeo/

I've already stated that I've gotten it up and running. you need to include the game name in the command line....
gngeo NAMEOFGAME --biospath=/media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios
eg.
gngeo wakuwak7 --biospath=/media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios
my main issue now is with the **** controls with the n810. the dpad is rubbish and onscreen buttons are ridiculous. for fighting games... I need to remap the controlls to use the HW keys.

Meh, I'll take a look once I get os2008 - I wonder if the GtkFileChooserButton is broken somehow. If you put your arcade bios in /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios , it should work regardless.
what is "GtkFileChooserButton"?

Here's a quick vid of the frontend i'm working on.
I need help removing the tab containing File Configuration and Rom Drivers.
Reading the tutorial on maemo.org didn't help much with removing them and adding them to the hildon window.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN57-Vn0WpI
I will only pack it up, when i have it fully hildon.
Really with most of the stuff i manage to build, i only didn't release them because of the hildon curse. lol
