Hi!
My first real post here.
I got my n800 a few weeks back and started to play around with it and I really love it! I have been sneaking around these forums collecting info and news while waiting for the os2008. Upgraded yesterday and got really excited about the new looks an responsive UI.
I will try to get involved in a few open-souce projects with my graphicsdesign skills (if you got something going on contact me on claes.norin@gmail.com).
Now to my question:
I have trouble when I try to update the maemo extra repo. It seems to be down. Is it? (I am trying to install pidgin, mplayer, gpe suite, and some other apps)

ah, I thought so. Hopefully the traffic will ease of in a few days.
Same problem here, and it's really anoying because my tablet in not in any usable state to me because I'm missing my apps...
Try downloading from gronmayer (http://www.gronmayer.com/it/index.php?lang=en&system=maemo4)
You could always refresh the repos from xterm.
Works for me. 'course, you need to be root, so first install the becomeroot (check this thread: http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12215&highlight=becomeroot+os2008)
sudo gainroot
apt-get update
Done. Check your available apps in the program manager.

Thank you, this works faster.
Still it needs to download Pidgin from those overloaded servers.

You can actually install the apps from the command-line as well. Just as long as you find the name of the package you want to install, a simple apt-get "packagename" will see you right.
I find that this works a lot better than using the applicationmanager just now. For some reason apt-get seems more fail-resistant and more patient than the GUI-version.
Names of packages can be found in the .install files that you open from maemo etc.

Again thank's for this tips apt-get ran all the night to get pidgin for this morning.
it seems that the server is more efficient at 6AM here(france).

Once a refresh error, always a refresh error.
