I was just looking at the post Reggie made about free wallpaper from the Maemo UI team (http://www.internettablettalk.com/2007/12/18/free-wallpapers-from-the-maemo-ui-team/) and wondering why the "Thanks!" feature here at ITT isn't used more. I realized I have a lot of thanks to give.
Thanks to Reggie (http://www.internettablettalk.com/author/reggie/) for starting this site, for making it a place I want to visit daily, for spending so much of his time doing the admin tasks like hooking up the news items to the forums and redesigning the layout, for all his efforts on behalf of us ITT users.
Thanks to Ari Jaaksi (http://jaaksi.blogspot.com/) and his crew at Nokia for bringing us an affordable sensational tablet, for continually improving it, for welcoming user and blogger input to make it better, for partnering with the open-source community on this endeavor, giving back and building tools for others to use.
Thanks to the Nokia higher-ups who allowed this skunkworks initiative to prove its worth then moved it into the corporate mainstream of the N-series and Forum Nokia.
Thanks to Quim Gil (http://flors.wordpress.com/) for being our advocate inside Nokia and for keeping us informed on what's going on inside the pale.
Thanks to Nikolay Pultsin (aka Geometer) and Mikhail Sobolev for their tireless development of FBReader (http://www.fbreader.org/), the fabulous e-reader for the Nokia internet tablets (as well as many other platforms now).
Thanks to Daniel Gentleman (http://tabletblog.com/), aka Thoughtfix, for his reporting on so many aspects of tablets of all sorts.
There are others in our community who have brought much insight to the forums here, posted great information in times of desperate need, ported apps or made them from whole cloth. I encourage all the members here at ITT to add the specific people they want to thank to this list.
Thanks, everyone!Read the full article. (http://www.internettablettalk.com/2007/12/19/thanks/)

I can't do more than joining your stream of thanks and thank all the people behind the Maemo software/hardware platform.
My particular "Thanks!" goes to Quim Gil for his outstanding job at keeping us constantly updated and being our advocate inside Nokia (as you've stated).
I also wanted to thank all the Maemo developer that are so kind and dedicate so much of their time to answer to our doubts, questions and trolls around the Maemo platform. They did and are doing an astonishing job.
That's open source development in a business environment. The way I see it. The way I think it should be done.
As the title clearly states: thank you.

Yes indeed, thanks to all involved, and particularly Quim.
If you only knew how hard it was getting him here in the first place... :D

Let me add my voice to this chorus. I am constantly thanking the 'forum' but it is indeed the people who deserve the praise. Your list is good one (imo, the mvp goes to Mr. Gil)! Of course there are so many more unnamed, but to all, I say again, thank you very much.

Great list, RogerS! ...Your list and many more deserve our heartfelt thanks for all they've done for the Internet Tablet community.
I've been part of the Garmin community in the past when Garmin was beta-testing the StreetPilot series. I was part of the Danger/T-Mobile community when Danger was going to T-Mobile for release of the T-Mobile Sidekick. I am part of the Dash community now as part of the beta-testing of the Dash Express under the National Road Test (NRT). I am part of the Internet Tablet community now as a N800/N810 owner and developer. Nokia's IT community is one of the most dedicated and vibrant I've seen!
ITT and Nokia's dedicated community is part of what drew me to the N800 and N810, and what continues to keep me here. I hope that Nokia continues to promote and thrive with their Nseries Internet Tablets!
My heartfelt thanks and best wishes to all those named, and all those who continue to labor unnamed, in support of the Nokia Internet Tablet.
Happy Holidays!

Well I have been slowly using the thanks buttons, I forget often, and post a thanks :)
My special thanks goes out to two people specifically..
1) Gnuite, for making the best app from scratch for the maemo platform.
2) Fanoush, without his bootmenu and flasher tools, I could not have the fun I do.
So you two have my special thanks :D
To Reggie, and everyone else who contributes to the forums and helps the people who are in need, Thanks!!!

If you only knew how hard it was getting him here in the first place... :D
And thank you for that work.
Now, just get him to post a link to his Amazon wish list.

I can grumble and mumble with the best of them about my missing Evince and Skype functionality, about buggy app downloading, about the PIM void, etc. etc. -- but I was glad to see the RogerS post at the top of this thread, and I'll add my two cents. The Nokia N800 was my first foray into the LInux universe, and all confusion and frustration aside it's been a great experience to find the great help and intelligence and support here at ITT and at maemo.org and at all the developers' sites and blogs out there. Once some of that new and updated software makes it one OS2008 I'm going to be happier than ever with this platform. Meanwhile, the community is great. Happy Holidays to everybody!

Of course there are so many more unnamed, but to all, I say again, thank you very much.Heck, let's get their names named, both those working at Nokia and those who contribute here in the forums at ITT and in providing software!

I second the motion regarding all of those mentioned above. I would include those that have helped through their contributions to ITT. The list is long but special thanks go to Flegg, Milhouse and Texrat for their extaordinary longstanding support.

Wow, thanks yourself, stat!
In addition to those mentioned, I want to single out my partner zerojay for his own tireless advocacy, as well as the incorrigible "Belgie", Karel, for keeping us all honest. ;)

Let me add my thanks to everyone else's. I am very grateful to the tireless advocates of this type of machine -- both in Nokia and outside to us and others. Thanks to you folks, this platform and these devices have just gotten better and better.
I just returned from some international travel. It's the first time I dared go without a laptop. From email with Modest, phoning with Skype, tracking with Maemo Mapper, watching videos with mplayer, etc etc, I'm quite amazed at this little device.
So I'm also grateful to all those who continue to push this platform: those who go exploring and testing and trying things just because they can. And to those developers whose mental wheels are spinning...keep the stuff coming.
Thanks. And Happy Holidays.
-- Mike
Oh dear, a huge list, hm, but, on the top of mine would be Penguinbait (Attracted an innumerable amount of non-tablet users to look at the ITs), Texrat(constantly giving everyone here tidbits and teases from Nokia), and Quim(ITT's inside advocate and all around good guy) . Three of the most talented and involved members of the community.
Thanks! :D
This must be where I can say thanks for all the work on this little machine. To add to the above deserving folks:
The OS has been reinvented/improved twice since I bought it, making it like a new machine. Thanks for the detailed instructions to be found for loading software and upgrading and the search function that allows me to find stuff without adding to the clutter of the How do I.../Just real quick, tell me x and it better be easy.
Every time I start to consider selling my N800 due to money constraints, usually that day something cool will come out and I keep it.
Best wishes, all.

Well, I don't know many names, and memory will fail me so please forgive me if you are remembered in a subsequent post, but here's my current short list:
Gnuite, Penguinbait, Zerojay, Texrat, Reggie, Fanoush, Karel, Milhouse, Aisu, General Antilles and last but not least, Ari Jaaksi.
Your posts, apps and help have been most appreciated in the few months I've been following this forum.
Edit: Yep, I forgot Thoughtfix, whose enthusiasm I found most encouraging and Hedgecore, for posting in the philosophical range.
O yes, and hats off to the Brazilians, especially, except Handful, whose diligent posting has kept us sane, if not still impatient, while waiting for Canola2 (now downloading:)
Yay, thanks to all and happy hols!
I'd like to correct what I believe is a glaring omission in this list : the numerous and hyperactive Brazilian community (first and foremost at INdT of course, but not only there)...
These guys 'n gals have brought us the hildonized Python environment for the tablets (an essential part of the Maemo platform IMHO), many of the first games available for the 770, minimo and lots of other good stuff.
To this day they continue both to make development on the tablets more accessible (with Eagle, Easy etc.) and to innovate, pushing the platform forward with Canola2 and its development tools. Go team ! :-)

A big THANK YOU!! to Serge, without mplayer I would have sold my N800 a long time ago
Nice thread but so many people to thank to...for making my experience with N800 one of the best so far. I will try.
First comes the itT community, and Reggie for creating and maintaining it. Without itT, it would have been far less fun to buy and use my N800.
My favourite applications on N800(OS2007) are Mauku(Henrik), MH-Shot tool(Santtu/inz), x11vnc(Michael), EBoard(Tom), FBReader and media server/tablet-encode(Andrew). Big thanks go to all those who have created/ported the above apps.
It wouldn't be much fun using Nokia tablets without tips/hacks/opinions shared on the jaiku channels by texrat, zerojay, rcadden, atmasphere, barneyc, cintra, dkwatts. Thanks to Henrik for inviting me in the first place! Ricky and Jonathan get additional thanks for their weblogs.
I don't know whom to thank for maintaining Planet Maemo and Maemo Garage and WoM. Thanks to Marcelo for making Maemo SDK VMWare appliance, Joerg for excellent repository site, technut for all the hack tips,...I know I am missing many..., yerga, Pete Savage, Josep Torra, Mike(TVersity), Urho Kontorri, Daniel, Krisse, Admira, Derek Coleman and Ty of iTablet etc. for their excellent blogs/apps/ports.
(Sorry if I got any of the names wrong.)

I can't put these in any kind of order, so on to my usual state - - stream of consciousness:
Reggie and RogerS for leading the charge with this site - - I stumbled here when googling "Linux PDA" and was inches from saving up for an old Zaurus... only to find out the device I always coveted was soon to exist.
Thoughtfix for all the experimentation, blogging, and community building. I bet a lot of people do the things Dan does, but I know for a fact they don't compile instructions, answer questions, and do more to get their newfound information out to the public. The contest attracted a lot of new blood and attention to the tablets too! That was generosity beyond generosity. Kudos (hah).
aFlegg for being an awesome source of info from the early days up til now.
ArnimS for madly compiling our wildest dreams. I had a C64 running on my 770 the other day. A #&$*#& C64!!!
Serge for the work on mplayer and (Bet you didn't see this coming) Star Control 2 (along with ArnimS). I had SC2 running on my 770. #$&#*$ SC2!!!
Gnuite for maemomapper. Though I don't have a GPS unit and only installed it once to see what it was, I know this is a core app that has brought many into the fold. Please consider my ideas for subliminal message implants. ("Free Beer For Hedgecore" or something of that ilk.)
TexRat / Karel. The jabs have been priceless, you guys 'get' sarcasm and can play with it with the best of 'em. :) I get the feeling that if we ever found ourselves in a bar together there'd be a lot of soaked tablets and pissed off wait staff.
Konttori: I watched 5 hours worth of movies on my 770 on a train ride to Ottawa 2 years ago. It's your fault and you're awesome for it.
INdT: I always cackle when I show people Canola running and watch their face light up. Then I stop cackling to tell them where they can buy one of their own because they want one now. Excellent work on a very useful app.
Penguinbait: You don't think outside the box, you set it on fire and make a new one. I might get a new tablet just to try setups like the ones you're pulling. And like I said about Dan, you're sharing all your work and going the extra mile to document/disseminate it.
fPP: You've always had answers when my simple mind's been boggled. One day I'll look up a bunch of nonsensical Zen questions but even then I bet you'll answer 'em.
Milhouse: Again, lots of answers and information for everyone. My favourite was when you were slinging mud at that stupid kid a while back. You served him his a** on a plate and man I laughed.
My friend Jay who has never shown up here, but said "Hey lets go to Michigan today to get that tablet thing you want."
The Department of Homeland Security for pushing back the passport requirements and allowing me to cross the border 2 years ago with just my birth certificate and drivers license.
And the Academy for - - sorry wrong list.
On a side note, I got my 770 2 years ago on Dec 17th. Woo!

Well, like most of you, I have too many to thank individually, but there are a few that come immediately to mind that need singling out.
1. Gnuite, for maemo-mapper. Definitely a "killer app", and 2.x is even better.
2. penguinbait, for constantly amazing me with what these tablets can be made to do.
3. Fanoush, for many utilities, especially the bootmenu. I am a lifelong dual-boot addict, and don't think I've ever had a device (including a PalmPilot and Zaurus 5500/5600) that I didn't try an alternative OS on. Between him and penguinbait, I'm set!
Also many others, including Reggie and the forum admins, for keeping this place organized and a superb resource.
I can't put these in any kind of order, so on to my usual state - - stream of consciousness:
fPP: You've always had answers when my simple mind's been boggled.
Wow, am I flattered (*flush flush*) -- but not deluded: unworthy of being included in that Gotha list...
(or is it the other way around ? :-)
One day I'll look up a bunch of nonsensical Zen questions but even then I bet you'll answer 'em.
Well, if you don't mind nonsensical zany answers, fire away...
PS: here, see what you get for being so profligate and and wasteful with your keyboards, what with that double-space nonsense and all ? Now your cApSlOcK key is stuck :-)

Okay, clearly something has gone horribly wrong somewhere. A thread in which I'm being thanked?? By Texrat??!! WTF???!!!
Can we all please just go back to normal mode, people?
Evidently there is a solar flare or something such going on, and the reality dysfunction field extends past the Earth orbit, causing threads like this one to appear out of nowhere, maemo repository bandwidth to vanish into nowhere, and probably many other less important phenomena we haven't heard of yet (or will not have heard of yet, like pianos getting stuck in London staircases and such).
My grandma, who is an authority on such matters, holds that the Universe is an autostable energy complex (sort of like a top, only bigger), and thus the situation should sort itself out without us having to bother at all. Given the time scales involved, however, it is unknown whether that will happen after, or before, non-QWERTY N810 models become available (which might just cause another time warp in itself).
