Hello all,
has anyone had success with installing mc (midnight commander - file manager) on OS2008?
I have tried the one in the repository, but it does not work (it says during installation, that it cant be installed...)
Thanks for any advice!

i got it installed....
but it is broken....as in the gui.
the modifications to the terminal are not working with mc.
or it could be that mc is broken.
not sure.
its starts alright...but eveything you try to do pop up the keyboard.
and thats all that happens.

I have been able to install and use it on my N800. The one that worked is called mc_4.6.1-2_armel.deb, from january 2007. I think that it is the same version that you can find on http://www.komputika.net/maemo/ (I'm not sure, however, what I installed was a backup copy I had on my flash card).
Indeed, the one from the repository does not work, installer says that the installation file is corrupted.

Confirmed!! Fantastic!!! :D
No more vi for me! Bwhaha!
This one works fine, but it has no support for subshell whereas --version says it has, strange.

Cool, it works :). Thanks (I felt a bit jealous when I saw a Zaurus open with mc :D)
but without going to keyboard settings everytime, is there a way to disable the maemo on screen keyboard in mc so it only comes up when I press the middle button? Because when I am in menus, the keyboard keeps popping up and the screen shrinks too badly.

TBH that is just a symptom of the whole N800 Input System Sucks problem.
What we need is something more like PalmOS' where we can call the input field up on demand instead of relying on the OS' borken automatic detection system...
