Does it work? If not: is there an alternative ?
Thanks for any advice...

Wasn't there a problem with the transparent backgrounds in OS2008? Or has that been fixed... Or maybe I'm wrong :)

Does it work and does transparency work are two different questions. :) Yes, it works, as in it does what it's supposed to. Does the transparency feature work, no, not in the current version on OS2008.

Does anyone know when they will fix the transparency issue? Anytime soon?
Thanks.

When I tried it earlier on OS2008, there were lots of issues. It wasn't always 100% accurate in opening the app that I'd clicked on, sometimes it would even open apps that weren't on the list, which was weird.

Please add requests to the project Tracker -- who knows if the developer reads ITT.

-T.
P.S. I've already reported the transparency issue.

Strange, never had any problem with it. I've even restored my backup from the beta OS and remembered all settings and programs. I'm launching all my apps from the desktop;
It's not transparent but I've placed it on the bottom and looks acceptable.

I've been using Simple Launcher on my N810 with minimal problems. As already mentioned, no transperancy but like Saturn I just place it at the bottom :)
As for not launching of incorrect apps, I have seen that but only with what ever app is located to the far right of the SL bar. Whenever I would attempt to launch that far right app, the far left app on my bar would launch instead. As a work around, I just stuck an extra app in the far right position that I don't need to launch :P
Would really like to see this app updated officially for OS2008 :D

I would like to see this app officially in OS2008 w/ transparency fixed as well. It's one of two apps that I really miss. (osso-statusbar-cpu being the other that supposedly has issues as well)

I agree. I don't understand why the desktop is so inflexible.
Is there any way to get simple-launcher to launch URL's in the browser? Or do that some other way?
I reconfigured the desktop Web shortcut applet for my #2 site (home page is #1) but still need more.

Tell us more. You can change/add to the Google and Wikipedia links in the web applet?

No, the applet on the desktop that says "OS2008" and launches the browser pointed at the Nokia site.
Pull down the menu next to "Home" and do "Applet settings | Web shortcut". You can specify a different URL and image for it. But it has to be checked under "Select applets" or the option won't show up.
It pays to read menus.

Ah, yea I know about that. It's rather big and useless.
I was just wondering and hoping that you were talking about the web search bar. I think I read elsewhere about the ability to add text shortcuts to be used in that bar; I'll try to find that again.

I haven't had any issues with osso-statusbar-cpu. I use it, it's clock, and its script-runner to print source files, turn USB host mode on, start my BT-keyboard, etc.

Did you just install the os2007 version with required os2007 libs? or is the an os2008 version hiding somewhere ? :D

I think I found it (osso-statusbar-cpu) in the repos, but here is a link from the wiki:

Just for the information of those longing for s-l on IT OS 2008. I'm working on it now, however for properly implementing transparency it seem to require use of new plugin API and this is where I'm stuck. Should I have moved over this point, the transparency will be there and I'll look into other issues.

The transparent background is a nice to have (saw this bumped & hoped it was fixed) but its no showstopper.
Whats the issue with vertical size? I have SL dragged right across the bottom of my screen with medium sized icons and its great, just the same as on OS2007.

I just wish the Erminig (also GPE calendar & MH Shot tool) Icon would display larger, but they are also small in the menu too.

That shot of OS2007 makes me long for two things back. 1) Simple Launcher w/ transparent background and 2) List view for Speed Contacts. Not sure how we went backwards... :(

Thanks. Keep up the good work.
A little bug I run into is: When I have a full load of icons in SL, tapping the right-most icon often launches the app associated with the left-most icon instead.

just put HE os on my gf's 770 (yes, my old one!) and was reminded how great Simple Launcher is transparent - so, any news for 08 (or even diablo?) Someone must be able to do it ;)
it's such a great app

i recommend using personal launcher ( http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/personal-launch/ ) instead.

I can't seem to find simple launcher at all and I do find personal launcher but it says the page cannot be openned when I try to download. Does anyone know where I can get either one of those launchers??
Thanks.

They are both available in the "extras" repository. Chances are you have it enabled on your tablet, so try looking for them in your Application Manager.

Don't want to be a pain - but it's not in my Extras. Where else can I look for it?
Thanks.

I was mistaken about Simple Launcher. I had presumed it was in extras, but it is in fact in extras-devel. If you still can't find them, here are the (diablo) links:
Simple Launcher (http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/pool/diablo/free/s/simple-launcher/simple-launcher_0.9.5_armel.deb)
Personal Launcher (http://repository.maemo.org/extras/pool/diablo/free/p/personal-launch/personal-launch_0.6-4_armel.deb)

fiferboy - if I open this email up on my tablet and click on your links will I be able to directly download onto my tablet? Sorry if it's a stupid question but I don't know much on how to download applications unless they are on the tablet or from Maemo.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Kally, yes. If you browse to this page and click the above links a dialog box should appear giving you the options to "Save" or "Open'. Click "Open" and it will download the package, open application manager, and install the file.
