No word on a few of the specifications yet, but it looks awfully similar to an n810. I figure it's statues as a competitor will really depend on the final price of this device, which is yet to be seen.

Edit: Just found this in another thread. Sorry for the duplicate. Yes I searched, No it didn't bring it up when I searched. My bad

I like the idea of placing the service indicator lights on the body, if that can free up UI real estate without causing any issues.

It's not just the likely price; considering what's inside the LG it has to be quite a bit heavier than a N810. Apart from that, though, it could be a very real competitor.

It's got an HDD instead of an internal SDHC slot, which is a no-go for me. No moving parts, please...

putting a small HHD in anything this small these days is bad judgement , when you can readily go out and buy 16gb of flash memory in a package the size of a postage stamp...companies need to abandon lower capacity hard drives and focus on higher and higher capacity flash drives

Larger, heavier, hotter and half the battery life -- that's my guess. I'm not an expert on power requirements, but I'm guessing adding a hard disk to N800 would double the power draw...

Some more pics I just saw:

I don't think I could fit that in a pocket.

fat, ugly, uninspired. not much of an improvement compared to the oqo. not as pretty/slim as the n810.

Moving parts + gravity = bad. An SSD would be fine, but other than that, no.

My n800 has slipped once or twice. Dust it off and keep on working. Do that with the lg and you are done for.

If I could by 2 or more n810s for ones of these, I don't think there's much question which I'd get.

So according to the article (here (http://www.pocketables.net/2008/01/lg-umpc-headed.html)) linked by jussik, this LG device won't be available in the US (but will be available in Asia, Europe and Canada, allegedly). This mostly ties in with the Lenovo and Aigo MIDs that will only be available in Asia with no definite dates for US availability.

Does this suggest that Intel are restricting MID availability, perhaps worried what it might do to laptop (processor) sales in the US (and possibly EMEA as I'm sceptical about the LG/Europe+Canada info)?

And what's with the "L" key on that LG (see first pic in article)? :)

And the Enter key so far away from the main alphabetic keyboard looks like a disaster...

Search "feature" sucks, buddy. It's not your fault. ;)

it is one thick portable - 20mm without battery.

Def. not something I would buy. Furthermore, why do all these umpc's have bezels. I'm no Iphone fan - but the flush screen looks very nice and is user friendly.
My old old Toshiba Portege 3500 tablet has a thinner bezel than all these new gadgets (including my n770)

It's probably to make enough internal space for all the components and also I have a feeling it's easier to make a sturdy device when it's not just screen all the way to the edges.

As it turns out, this LG does indeed weigh almost 3 times as much as a N810 (590g compared to 225g for the N810, 206g for the N800). Definitely a no-go for me! I want to be able to hold it up with one hand for as long as possible.

without a bezel... my n810's screen would be scratched to hell.

Not if something would be sticking out on each side of the screen, like a button.
