Os 2008 V.2

For fear of sounding like a complete dunce (which I am when it comes to Linux) what is the difference between the original version of OS 2008 and V.2 other than the extra IMs featured? I have searched and read different threads on the topics but none that really targets my problem. I don't have a Linux PC and I haven't figured out an easy way reflash my N810 from the device itself without going root. Like I said I am a functional linux illiterate. I have decided to keep to the original version, but I have been unable to install Skype to my device and i wonder if this has something to do with the version I have. I am also not sure that Gizmo video chat as well as Maemo mapper will work on my device with the original version. Please if you are going to say use the search function, please don't bother to post on here... I did and nothing really made sense to me. Only constructive comments are welcome. Thank you

Erm, where did you get information about a version 2? AFAIK, there is only the official released OS2008 and the beta.

When I was on OS2007, I had no problems installing Skype. What is the error message that you are getting? Gizmo chat was also working for me on OS2007

What's wrong with the simplest method of updating your NIT from any windows PC via a USB connection using the Nokia installation software installed on the PC.

The wizard will advise what release of OS you have installed on your device and if there is and update.

if you are referring to the two OS images

RX-34_2008SE_2.2007.50-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

the first was an unstable beta version and the second was the official release with some bug fixes and functionality updates.

Thanks guys for all the comments so far... I am at work and don't have my n810 with me so I will try your suggestions when I get home. I did mean beta and official release in my previous post. When I go to install skype it tells me that I am missing a couple of repos... Hopefully I will be good to go after reflashing my device this evening. Thanks guys
