I've been able to get Canola installed, but I just reflashed my tablet and tried to install it anew from the site. I installed the base repository, then tried installing from the site which went through most of the instillation then said "Unable to install Canola2", I had the same problem with Canola before the reflash also. I tired insalling in Red Pill mode, but it gave me the same error message. It says it was unable to install but then it will be in my applications list. When I try to launch it, it says loading, but never opens.
Right now I'm waiting to get my N810 to turn back on. I wanted to restart it then try to uninstall Canola and install it again, but as most of us know, there is 10% chance of the N810 turning back on after you shut it off *sigh*.

Just tested here and it works, maybe you have unstable connection and some packages could not be downloaded?

Not sure, I tried to uninstall it and it says I can't because there are other things installed that require it? When I go to try to uninstall those things, there is even more stuff that requires those things. I'm not about to go around and manually uninstall everything... how can I get it removed?

Hi SHtevie :
Be calm =) you will not brick your n800 with Canola.
What happens is that due to some installs sometimes the application manager goes crazy and breaks for no reason. After this " break" it gets a lot of errors when installing canola or other applicatons (specially if they are python).
There's 2 ways of solving the problem. If you have nothing instaled, you can do the easiest, fastest way :
1) download the windows version of the flasher for maemo, and flash your device with the newest firmware available. After that, and before installing anything.. try adding the 2 repositories to your application catalogue :
maemo and maemo extras
You can use gronmayer's website for that : http://www.gronmayer.com/it/
install them :
Maemo extras
and
Maemo chinook
After that, let the application manager refresh, you should not face any errors, if you face erros in this stage please check your internet connection etc...
That done, just go to the application installer, hit " Available application " and canola2 will be listed there ready to install.
So you don't even need to go to the website... just install via there.
We have tested with all devices, in all firmwares several times before release and the clean install NEVER failed.
So this lead us to believe that other applications end up installing packages that can conflict.
BUT if you know a little bit about XTERM (terminal) and SSH you can do without rebooting, following the tips that are presented here in ITT forums :
Login as ROOT (via ssh) and..
1. At prompt, type the following and then hit enter
apt-get -f remove canola2
2. At next prompt, type : (one big line)
apt-get --purge --force-yes -y remove libevas0 libecore0 libeet0 libembryo0 libdownloadmanager0
and then.. you can from there install again :
apt-get install canola2
This solved the problems of almost every single people facing this issue!
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16075
Of course, we are not happy with that and we don't want end users to be learning xterm
If this is a canola bug, we will fix it. If this is an application manager problem we will report it, and if there's a way that we can help avoid it we will do it, even if it is not a canola problem.
Hope you can solve this!

Thanks for the quick reply. Since I'm not fluent in xterm or ssh, I chose your first method and reflashed my N800. (Kind of a pain) but I followed your directions and Canola now runs. (I don't see Maemo and Maemo Extras in my Application catalog...should I?)
In any event, doesn't seem to detect any media so far. It says "No items found". I haven't been able to find any setup menu's. I tried rebooting as suggested in a different thread but so far nothing.

Hi Shtevie :
1) did you set up the media library folders? (we are making a wizard to easy this process) but for now you need to choose the " watched" folders manually.
go to settings , media library , then for audio folders click.. and choose ( click on the eye to mark as watched, or in the name to browse down the folders)
After doing that for each one.. you will be able to see your media.
If not, let me know!

Thanks Marcelo! That did it. .I was looking in the wrong place for a settings menu drop down box. One last question; how do i download album cover art?

Shtevie :
Album art is not downloaded inside of canola because of legal issues. (it's illegal to do it because it's property of record labels)
But a third party has created a small application, called Canola-Tuning, is on the "installable application"
It will install 2 small apps 1 for cover and 1 for thumbnails for videos.
After that... you can also choose between the available album covers by click in the album art view (the one you see 1 big algum plus 2 small pieces of the others)

Marcelo,
Once again, thanks for your patient handholding. It seems to be a very cool app and I'm glad to have it finally installed!
