I'd buy this, were it not for two pesky details:
- I vowed to never buy anything Sony-ish again (I bought my P910i before that decision) and
- I vowed never to buy anything Wince.

Boy, am I starting to regret those vows...

Well, no one is saying that Nokia will always rule the roost. But I don't see a price listed. I'm not willing to carry something in my pocket that will bum me out majorly if lost, broken, or stolen.

I really dislike Windows mobile, and I sometimes think the N800 has too sharp display (hard to read), this screen is even sharper.

The hardware looks really good, but I really can't stand Windows mobile

WinCE is a sufficient reason to ignore this device.

Windows Mobile is a good thing. Slow but still good. It has best PDA functionality ever. Yep, better than Palm. And than the iPhone. Ideal OS for the business device I think.

WinDOZE Mobile + Sony = I'll keep my Nokia.

Sadly, Wince is the only portable platform for which decent cursive HWR is available.

"Decent" as in: "Working".

Still don't want it tho'.

N810 (wimax or standard) > Xperia > iPhone.

800x480 on 3"... This is Sparta...
I'm really interested to know what kind of processor will handle this and the WM.

Just saw this. I will probably get this instead of an N810 or if Nokia comes up with something new. This has everything I was looking for in a Nokia IT. The only downside though (it's a big one!) is that it is running Windows. :(

Put the dpad etc on the kb! bigger screen and teleport button.

3" screen? Hmm, while there are a lot of pixels, you can't exactly use them, because you won't be able to see what you are trying to display.

It's becoming like the megapixel rush on digital cameras - these days your average point-and-shoot camera is up to 10 megapixels, resulting in no better image quality (the lens is still the same), and much worse light sensitivity.

And of course, it took someone all of 10 seconds to say "iPhone", which is interesting, as Apple just announced that, in the US, they sold more iPhones than all the WM devices put together in the last quarter :) (http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/02/06/Apple-beats-Microsoft-Motorola-in-phone-sales_1.html)

Cost?

At least it's not Apple...

3" screen... that's really pushing it.

A 3" screen doesn't cut it.

I noticed that the phone will support the T-mobile USA 3G band. If T-mobile ever launches their 3G service I would prefer a simpler phone, but I may still have to look at this as a tethering option--the other "3G ready" phones released so far look like crap.

Made by HTC (maybe):
http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/10/no-wonder-sony-ericssons-xperia-x1-is-so-good-htc-makes-it/

Too bad about the Windows bit. And the price (which will surely be "too much").

Looks OK if you do a lot of txting, but I wouldn't rely on it as a true Internet device, plus wimo kills it. I'm really holding out for the N800 with WiMax and hoping the technology takes off. I want to dump my cell plan so bad! Also, 800x480 on a 3-inch screen seems like it would be pretty terrible; I realize I think this without seeing it, so maybe it's ok.

Am I the only person on the planet that wants my cell phone to be as simple and small as possible? Having something that big on me at all times would be a pain in the *** for me personally. That's why I don't like the iphone, most HTC devices, the sidekick, etc., they're all so damn big!

@skeezer - that's me, too... I want a cell phone to be just a phone... cheap, small, w/ good signal. I use a pantech c150 for that reason.

3" screen... hmmm.... dunno. I do like watching the Apple fanboys going apoplectic though.

I think it'll cost like a top business device = too much. Bout sold iPhones: how many iPhones were sold in the business sector? Two or three?) Apple likes to put a noodle one your ears with shady facts. This's called P.R.

I have a smartphone with WM6, and like it a lot (much better than the last winCE device I used). its a lot easier to add additional programs and functionality on WM6 than it is for maemo. and so far, its more stable than maemo too. I do like my IT, but I definately use it a lot less after I got this WM pda/smartphone.

WM(any) browser(any) right now totally suxx. MicroB beats them with one finger. And I'll argue about the stability :) If you don't install software then yep, it's stable :) But even 10 programs onboard can slow down the system significantly :(

A 3" screen doesn't cut it.

No ****. I don't think people realize how big the difference is... The screen area is about ~56% of the screen area of N8x0.

uh, i just bought one to replace my phone and maybe an addition or replacement to my aging 770. big bucks for sure. sure you may hate wm6, but in conjuction with wm explorer, it also has opera 9.5 and flash lite. also, its unlocked from sony.

i had a pocket pc once long ago running wince. i liked it, easy to install software and also lots of possible hacks.

And horrible interface... The Xperia make up hardly hides that...
