Reggie, I know you will post additional information as you get it (like an exact date). Can you tell us anything more than "official word"? I take that to be a Nokia employee speaking on the record.

Thanks for digging this out.

No exacact date was given. Let's just assume that it's the end of October. ;)

October should be the date. Nokia can't afford to delay it much longer, if they want to make the 770 one of THE devices to get for xmas. ;)

What, there will be some *competition* for the 770? Like all those HDed PPCs that haven't materialized in the wake of the LifeDrive? Please.

Get it right, Nokia. That's what I want.

This may be totally a stupid suggestion BUT... is it possible Nokia got word of the Apple "one more thing" event Oct 12 and wanted to hold off releasing the Nokia 770 to see what Apple may release? The rumor is a Video iPod or something similar perhaps to the Sony PSP, which may allow one to surf the net?

Just a thought.... Apple never ceases to amaze me!! ;)

Is this the New Apple Video iPod?

Check this out: http://www.engadget.com/ Scroll to find the "possible" video ipod pic... If this is 'it".. looks like a 3.5-4.0 inch screen??

Well, it's "officially" official that it's been delayed. Some quotes about why as well:

The finalisation of the software platform took a few weeks longer than we originally planned

There were still quite a few bugs mid-September but the last two SW versions have really cleaned up the small stuff...it's starting to look real good now.

FoulPlay: I believe the latest SW doesn't include the X Terminal app and it doesn't seem to be available separately. Could you keep a copy of an earlier SW which does include it, so post-release us "late"-adopters can get a copy?

quote: "to sell for about $350 excluding local taxes" which means 350 PLUS tax which totals around 400.- then here in Germany ???

Unfortunately that's not possible. Our best best is for the developers of Maemo Terminal to compile a Application Installer ready DEB file as far as I can see.

In LinuxDevices article on the delay, there's a suggestion it may be due to licencing moves to replace Opera with MiniMo (a Mozilla-based browser):

I say that Nokia should push it for October. Imagine how much sales they can get for the Christmas season, with companies/vendors ordering by bulk as giveaways. If it comes out for $250, Nokia should make sure that their customer support department is ready. ;)

For everyone's info... I emailed Nokia last night and asked about the 770 release date.. they replied this morning and said the release date is "undetermined at this time". ;-(
