AOL is my email provider. I can readily log into AOL.com with my Nokia 770 via WiFi. The standard screen comes up just as it does on my PC, and I can enter my user name and password as usual. However, AOL does not let me get any further. I talked with Nokia tech support and was informed that I was not the only one having this problem, that AOL to date was refusing to provide support to this device. Has anyone yet developed a means to effectively retireve email from AOL with the 770?

I'll be interested to hear of progress here, too. My wife has AOL email and one of the reasons we got the 770 is for doing email while traveling.

So - to paraphrase AOL - "We don't support AOL Webmail on the Nokia 770 - because we can't be bothered to write standards compliant HTML / Javascript ..."

I'm looking into solving the same problem for the wife of a friend. The overlap of Nokia 770 users and AOL users is unlikely to be the largest user base ever ... So I won't hold my breath.

I had a look at the "sniffer" javascript that AOL uses to determine what the browser/OS is , and I think the 770 falls through the cracks as not being one of the supported combo's.

That being the case I've tried installing the Manaos browser from

http://extindt01.indt.org/10le/manaos/downloads.html

and it doesn't appear to suffer the issues the built in opera browser does, although it is very slow.

Here's hoping things improve in the future

Hello:

I just received my Nokia 770, and am also disappointed that AOL email will not open while using it. Have you ever figured out a way to check AOL email using the Nokia 770?

I would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Not yet. I guess that AOL will not do anything about this unless enough Nokia users complain. And I regret that we're probably not sufficiently numerous to make any impact. I suggest you contact AOL directly. It's been months since I've done so. Maybe they're making some moves. I read in the newspaper recently that AOL is looking into switching to Linux as their server rather than Windows, to save money! Good luck, and post any interesting results you may have.

Try classic.webmail.aol.com for the earlier version of AOL webmail. Not all the fancy bells and whistles of the newer version of webmail, but it works with the Nokia 770.

That's strange. I just checked and mine still works fine, using the classic.webmail.aol.com.

I'm a new 770 user and am unable to get AoL email using the 'classic' route. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

There's no www in the URL as others have suggested - just http://classic etc

After much research, the good news is that AOL does use POP3!

Follow this link to AOL help pages…

http://help.aol.com/aimhelp/dynamick...rticleId217449
An informative post is also available at about.com…
http://email.about.com/cs/aoltips/qt/et050704.htm

AOL advise that…

'You can now send and receive your AOL or AIM e-mail using any e-mail program, as long as it supports either the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) or the Post Office Protocol (POP). You get all the great features AOL or AIM e-mail has to offer and the flexibility to read and send e-mail via a third-party e-mail client.'

Create a new account with the following configuration options:
For N810
1/4 Account Name = Whatever
Account Type = POP3
2/4 Name = Your Name
Username = firstpartofyouremailaddress
Password = your account password
Email Address = firstpartofyouremailaddress@aol.com
3/4 Incoming Server (POP3) = pop.aol.com
Outgoing server (SMTP) = smtp.aol.com
Don't tick 'use connection specific SMTP servers' box
4/4 Click 'Advanced' tab

INCOMING
Tick 'Leave messages on server' box
Password authentication = Normal
Security = None
Incoming email port = 110
OUTGOING
SMTP Authorization = Login
User Name = firstpartofyouremailaddress
Password = your account password
Security = None
Outgoing email port = 587

Click OK
Works for me!

Good luck,
Eurotick
