Hi there,

are there any plans to support itpc with canola?
Unfortunately, there are quite a few podcasts which exclusively have an itpc:// "podcast-link".

I don't know anything about itpc:// myself, as I have neither itunes nor an ipod, but I found that amarok seems to be able to handle itpc, so it might be possible for $non_apple-apps to deal with it

Hi Tantris,

If this is open, we will try to support, but we cannot commit if a lot of reverse engineering or some "considered" illegal api does that : / like for example "officially" we don't support mplayer.

But, I believe that with the plugin support, and podcast being the example of how to develop it will be easy for people interested in adding spport to those special cases.

Podcast has shown itself as a very problematic feature due to the large amount of different formats and badly formated feeds out there... We are doing our best but it's really hard to keep up with all specific things from this matter :)

send us some important feeds, and we will take a look of course...

Hi handful,

i think it shouldn't be a problem with the licenses - Amarok is under GPL; but of course limited developer time is obvious ;-)
Actually, the first podcast that really annoyed me with only having itpc was the cebit podcast (biggest german computer fair):
http://www.cebit.de/podcasts
(You see the "i-tunes Feed abonnieren" button? this is the itpc link, the rss-button was not there when I checked the page the last time... However, I can't get this podcast (neither the "normal" rss-podcast nor itpc) to work with canola)

I don't use podcasts a lot, but in the last few days even I encountered such poorly designed podcasts, it must be hell to try to write some good parser for that...

Hi Tantris,

The thing is not amarok's license :) I was talking if the itunes format is proprietary and implemeting a parse can be against apple's license. Amarok has "ways" of doing that.. as we did with the issue of the covers, but we cannot guarantee anything :) but anybody can take the code from the amarok and port to canola ehehhe :)
