Rdesktop, vnc, synergy, ssh... probably some others I'm not thinking of right now.

Yes. (Assuming you've got BT hardware in your PC)

is there a way to control the music on my Vista desktop with out having to use VNC (or other software that shows me the screen). I just want to be able to click on a song on my n800 and have it play on my desktop ?

Hmm.. well there was MCE Guru. Though it hasn't been worked on in a while (it used Vista's Windows Media Player)

Does one do it with bluetooth using one of the above applications or is something else required?

I did it everynite when I was using the 770! In addition to my honey, I also take my 770 to bed :p. It is running a remote desktop on my 770 and winamp on the desktop. I blow up the winamp to occupy as much space by using the 770, i click on the 770 to start the music, click the song I want to hear, skip anytime I want it, and when my honey needs my 'undivided' attentions, I turn off the PC music using my 770, didnt even have to get out of bed. How do you like that? 770 sometimes drops the connect though.

Just Found out how to use RDP on Vista Home Premium SP1:

1)be logged in as an administrator

2) download this version of the patch for sp1 and unzip it: http://www.unet.fi/fransblog/2007/08/30/enable-remote-desktop-connection-on-vista-home-premium/

3) go to control panel\system and maintenance\administrator tools\services.
then goto terminal services and set start up type to disabled, then stop it, once
it is stopped, set start up type back to automatic

4) now go to the folder where the patch was unzipped to and right click the premium batch file and run as administrator

5) add port 3389 to the firewall exceptions

6) if you have a lan, then you will have to set the router to foward port 3389 to the ip address of the pc

Hope this helps some of you out there!!
