[Canola] Chinese Support?

I have Canola 2.0B8 installed, most of my songs are Chinese. I have Maemo CJK fonts installed on my N810, so it does display Chinese properly. If I go to Browse by Folder then the SD card folder, the Chinese filenames show and the files play properly. But I couldn't display the ID3 info, only a few lines show up properly.

Does Canola actually support CJK with the tags? The last talks about CJK support on the forum I find is in the thread about 2.0B5, about in the library.

mine are working, so, how did you name them though, cause i named mine on my pc

The names are working, just not the tags.

Toni : can you send us some of the files?
Can you also check the version of your Id3 tags? V1 and some old versions are really problematic to support. So if you could first try updating (in case that they are really old) it would really nice

Actually all my files have both V1 and V2 tags. I've tried manually re-entering them in Winamp. The files show up properly in Pocket Tunes back when I was still using my old Palm.

As a workaround for now, I just used a program and removed all the tags, then the filename shows up correctly.

Where should I send the files?

Toni can you also do another test? try then in the default media player.. do they show correctly there? if so it helps a lot!

Just an aside, Nokia did promise better Chinese rendering support in the upcoming OS2008 release. I wonder would that improve the situation?

Just an update to the situation, still unable to view ID3 tags with Chinese in them after Diablo. But the font typeface did change though.

Do you actually mean displaying properly? I tried uploading another song, still the same.

Are you saving the Tags in UTF8 or GB2312? I can't see anything like that in your screenshot - and i don't have Windows, but on Mac iTunes imports Chinese mp3s with UTF8 encoding perfectly, while GB2312 tags are messed up like in your screenshot. You can try mp3unicode (http://mp3unicode.sourceforge.net/) and convert all mp3s to Unicode if you have access to a Linux box or perhaps there's a different converter for Windows.

Edit: on a second thought, it may also be a font problem in canola, like in FBReader which does not fall back to other fonts if it can't find the required characters in the default font... but i don't use canola so can't test it out...

It could be in BIG5, but definitely not GB2312. GB2312 is for Simplified Chinese, and I use Traditional.

It was the BIG5 encoding. I got a utility called ConvertZ and fixed it.

Actually somewhat. I had one file (the one I just showed in the pics), for that one I just did a Unicode conversion, that worked, but some other songs which I deleted all the tags, and refilled it with information, those ones are only showing a title, but not the other info. I only filled in Artist and Title for those songs.

I'm going to try and reload my songs later.
