View Full Version : [Canola] Canola 2 Beta 8 on N770 OS 2007 HE - fails to launch

I have a N770 running OS2007 HE. I have tried installing Canola2 Beta8 a few times. The install completes successfully (or, at least I do not get any error). But, when I try to launch the application nothing happens. I went back to Canola1 and that launches without any issue.
Any help in getting the Canola2 issue resolved is appreciated.
Thanks

If you can send us the error message (by running canola on the xterm with -vv argument) :
canola -vv
We can try to help you better.

I tried that and got a single line
Illegal Instruction.
Not sure how helpful that is.

One more thing. When I install CAnola 1 I get two menu items in Extras - one for the player and other for the configurator. However, when I install Canola2 there is only one - called Canola. Not sure if the configurator has been merged into that single menu/program

Yes, in Canola2 configurator has been merged inside the App (it's a settings menu)
Canola 1 and CAnola 2 are completely different applicatons. (they do more or less the same, but are completely different :) )

!) Did you try to install it, using the right packages? please take a loo in the website instructions for HE installation, as it's not regular, you need to make sure some things are in place before you can actually install it on you HE enabled device.

I think I did follow the instructions on the Canola website - specifying the base/ extras with gregale distro. In fact, I tried a few things
1. Install from the Application manager using the defaults. That did not work.
2. Install from the Canola website using the link for 2007 HE
3. Install from the Canola website using the N800/ bora distro link
4. Reinstall Canola v1 from the Canola website
5. Reinstall Canola v2 for 2007 HE from the Canola website.
I tried to run Canola v2 cleanup and get the following message
HARDWARE: SU-18 SOFTWARE: 2007HE ERROR: Unsupported platform, please report.

I think if you tried with application manager default you already broke everything in the dependencies. You should have used the site instructions for HE at first place. Installing over the top, doesn't clear the dependencies.
Yes, you ran too much stuff on top of each other : /

Illegal instruction means that you installed OS2007 packages for N800 on your OS2007HE 770. You missed something in the list.

I'm having the same problem (same error message), tried to install 3 times already but it's always the same. I think I'm having trouble with step 2, the link posted in step 2 doesn't seem to go anywhere when just typed into my browser. Are the links maybe outdated?
Would someone be able to go through the second step in detail on how to install repositories for a newbie. I've never installed in this manner, coming from a Windows machine.:) This was working and installed fine in 2006os but it's just a point and click operation.:) Thanks for any help.

These are not full URLs - You should enter them in App manager as this:
Web Address:
http://repository.maemo.org/
Distribution:
gregale
Components:
free non-free

Thanks for that, I did a fresh os2007he install and fallowed the directions to the letter. Worked for installing Canola, works great for the photos and music but video crashes every time. This is the only app I have installed as of now so I'm not sure what up with that. Might reinstall 2006os and use it as is. Thanks again for the help though.

I'm having this same trouble on my n800 w/2008, i was having some other issues so I decided to reflash, but it still won't start, i ran the cleanup then reinstalled to no avail...

File "/usr/bin/canola", line 19, in <module>
import ecore.evas
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/ecore/evas/__init__.py", line 3, in <module>

thats what i got starting the app with -vv
Im not sure what happened or what I may have done wrong, but any help would be great t.i.a.

That's new, i did an update today and mine stopped working too. Made a symlink from libeet.so.1 to libeet.so.0 and tadaa! working again.

Just make a symlink - libeet0 update breaks it.

I also am having the problem on the N800 and have no idea what the "easy" solution means. Any clarification would be great.

First, becomeroot.
Then:
ln -s /usr/lib/libeet.so.1.0.0 /usr/lib/libeet.so.0

hmm, must not have been my error, it seems to have added a new error...
I don't understand whats up with this app, I have a clean os, (just a few apps) I have uninstalled canola & all the plugins and skins, ran the cleanup app, reinstalled and still nada, the -vv flag now shows a bunch of errors...
this thread doesn't seem to get any feedback from the devs, Ill try the other canola bug thread, thanks for the suggestions.

You can try posting what the new errors are?

yea, sorry I posted them in the sticky, probably about the same time as you posted here...
I wanted to take the time to reread the pertinent threads and make sure my problem wasn't covered.

Marcelo, is it possible to to add 2008HE version number to the list of 770 OSs, so that atabake mplayer backend can switch to 770 mode and actually work on 2008HE?
The 2008HE osso_software_version is:
RX-34+RX-44_2008SE_2.2007.48-9_PR_MR0
Maybe would be more general to detect 770 by its kernel - it uses 2.6.16 and won't be getting any newer.

Well, I will pass this to etrunko,
But also as I said, I think we are going to slowly drop any support for the 770 : /
