Hi,

re: http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=181510#post181510

With this: http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/switchdesktop.install

You can have two separate "desktops" with different applets visible for each.

The first time you click the application icon, your current desktop setup is saved as desktop 1.

Next time you click, you will switch to desktop 2.

Then, disable all applets and switch back to desktop 1 by clicking the icon again.

All your applets reappear in desktop 1.

Go back to desktop 2, enable another set of applets, switch to desktop 1.

The state of desktop 2 is saved when you switch.

Now you have two sets of applets, and can change between the two desktops quite easily.

It will take ~10 seconds to switch, because hildon-desktop needs to be restarted when switching.

I do not know any other method to make it read the configuration files than restarting it.

UPDATE: version 0.0.2 also saves the desktop background, statusbar-applets and tasknavigator settings.

Very nice work!

Reminds me of workspaces a slight bit :)

emjayes, does this allow for two Personal Menus and two sets of bookmarks?

BTW, re Personal Menu, there's also this (http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=181940&postcount=90)now.

Not yet, in next release I will try to integrate this as well.
Now I am pretty close to switching desktops without restarting hildon-desktop. I will make this work first.
Then all running apps can remain running while switching.

This app will no longer install. Right?

It does, but only for Chinook. I have not yet had the time to test and package it for Diablo.

Stay tuned.

Chinook (http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/dists/chinook/user/binary-armel/switchdesktop-0.0.3.deb) one installs fine in Diablo FYI.

I installed this with the link provided by qwerty12, however, (unless I'm doing something wrong) I can't see how its useful. When I switched desktops, all the applets on the new desktop get reset (both position and scale) Same thing happens when I go back to desktop 1. So basically I need to reposition everything for it to be used.

I like the idea, since there isn't enough screen space for the applets I would like to use.

I have the same placement problem, Is this because of the devil? If there a fix?

Items being reset when changing "desktops" is the issue that can't be ironed out without modifications to the Hildon desktop.

Therefore this package is not very useful right now.

I hope that Fremantle makes a difference once it comes out.

ok. That's too bad, at least for now.

:) Sorry to breathe life in this ol' thread.....but,
