Maybe I'm just slow in noticing, but I found the following page on the Nokia site by searching for 770:
http://www.europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,79633,00.html

I don't recall seeing it mentioned anywhere else.

It has some neat flash demos instructing how to use the device as well as a page for downloading software updates. The latest version is listed as "0.2005.40-18". Could the 18 at the end mean that the latest version was released today?

I noticed the USA site has a similar support page. Unfortunately, it's not as interesting as the European one. It also generically refers to the 770 as a phone  . I guess Nokia USA is still not quite used to the concept of selling something that's not a phone.

I hope this is a sign that the GA release is really close.

Thats very promising - lets hope it does mean the release is imminent.

The Official Nokia 770 site has been updated today and the "Coming Soon" tab has been replaced with a "Buy It" tab. Clicking it allows you to register your email address to receive an email when Nokia starts shipping devices.

Must be getting close! :?)

The USA Nokia site has been like that for sometime. I signed up for the email notification weeks ago. I have a gut feeling it will be released next week...??

Humm. I guess the reason I've been seeing something different is due to the fact that I click the link named "Nokia 770 Official Page " in this site's "Quick Links" section on the Home Page and it is now coming back from Nokia with a "Sorry...." message. Seems the official ROW site has now been updated too?

And I agree with your "gut feeling it will be next week" comment, TripleNickle.

Robert ;?)

Not to smash any rumors, but I do not believe the 18 has any relevance. We are testing 0.2005.41-12 now, and I cannot see where the 12 fits... I can say this... the number after the 2005 is the week of the year the software was released... for in your post, it was week 40, and I have week 41
