It's free as in cola, not free as in beer!

I refute that. I am a linux fan, might even go as far as to say fanboi, and I despise Ubuntu. Sorry, but I'm a Red Hat guy. Where's the Fedora Energy Drink?
and here i tought it would be kool-aid...

It's free when the previous user has finished with it (though you may not want to drink it at that stage...).

Fedora != Red Hat. Fedora is not officially supported by nor an actual product of Red Hat.
Fedora was around prior to Red Hat dumping all it's trash into it and making it a big name.
Fedora is the trash bin for Red Hat developers to dump any new idea they have into it for testing and see if it works before putting into the official RHEL series for businesses.
I used to like Red Hat until they changed their business model to something grotesque and discontinued the official free red hat releases.
Now.. I only followed fedora up to FC4; it was a decent distro; haven't checked the latest (9?) to see whats new.. but if Red Hat is finally officially supporting fedora - let me know.. otherwise.. Fedora is a bastard by-product scapegoat of Red Hat trying desperately to maintain their "Open Source" image without actually having any Open Source ideals.
Red Hat is the Microsoft of Linux.

As binary packages on don't make sense to me, at least on desktop Linux system, I suppose I'm stuck waiting for either:
Slackware Soda - which would be illegal in many countries, at least in quantities of more than a few fluid ounces
Gentoo Soda - which, rather than a single drink, would be the return of the old fashioned soda fountain

Red Hat is the Microsoft of Linux.
With all fairness to Red Hat (mostly a Debian user here ; If I have to use redhat stuff for anything I just use CentOS nowadays)..... and am not trying to be fodder for flame bait but .....RH does contributes the most of any company towards the Linux kernel development.
https://www.linuxfoundation.org/publications/linuxkerneldevelopment.php
Doesnt take away the coolness of this Ubuntu Cola though ;)

Ok.. Granted.. and I didn't say RH is the worst company in existence.. that is held IMHO by a certain other mainstream non-compliant OS.. just in my opinion they are the worst of the best operating system making companies :D. (course the term best is used in a very personally biased opinion-based not really fact-based idea set :))
I agree about the cola.. although the wiki say they have no affiliation with the Linux ubuntu.. which sucks - but still.. an ubuntu drink - surprised I didn't see it on ThinkGeek :).

Seriously though, there may be sodas that do contain bugs (http://www.boston.com/news/globe/health_science/articles/2006/03/06/are_insects_used_to_make_food_coloring/).
there are things in life one is better of not knowing about ;)
that said, what about alcohols with bugs in them? :P

In general, cola contains way too much sugar, and not so good taste. IMO... Club-Mate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club-Mate) for life! :)
I loved seeing the fair trade logo though... :)

Of course, like Coke has derivatives, they'll have to make their own - like Kubuntu caffeine-free and Xubuntu sugar-free.

In the near future, we could also be seeing a Sugar-free OLPC Cola :D :p
gazza_d
07-18-2008, 03:11 PM
surely OLPC Cola would taste like normal Cola, but it would come in a very small kid size bottle and be coloured bright green!
SCO Cola would have gone off sale years ago, as now all they try to do is sue Coca-Cola and everyone for stealing their recipe!
On an aside, I'm heartened to find I'm not the only one who found this entertaining. Thanks Guys

Red Hat is the Microsoft of Linux.
I've been Red Hat since 7, and TBH it's mostly habit that I don't like Ubuntu. Nothing works how I'm used to it.
I run Red Hat on supported corporate servers, CentOS on personal servers, and Fedora on desktops (8, as I don't like KDE4) Fedora is unofficially supported, more-so know that RH have completely ditched the desktop. It's not their "trash-bin", Fedora is and has always been a bleeding edge distro. If anything it's Red Hat's test bed. I treat each release as beta quality.
Besides, since Red Hat bought JBoss I ahve even more incentive to use their servers at work, as all our apps run on JBoss.
