View Full Version : Woot-off still going strong (July 29-30)

Well, there's a wootoff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woot#Woot-Off) at http://woot.com; thought about mentioning it yesterday, but didn't bother; no actual ITs or anything. On reconsideration, though, there's plenty of stuff that could be handy with an IT (FM transmitters, earbuds, SDs, mice, BT headsets, and less relevant stuff, too), so here it is. Probably most people who are interested know it already, but consider yourself alerted.

heheh. indeed.

actually, several woot-offs (woots-off?? ) ago, I briefly spotted a Nokia 770 Internet Tablet (refurbished, they had about 10 of 'em) that disappeared before I could figure out what it was and if I wanted one. That led to a short investigatory period, aided by google, which then led me to this forum, maemo, and amazon.com. Three days of free shipping later, I had a Nokia N800 in my hands. Been here bothering folks, off and on, ever since.

So, now you know who to blame...

Do they ship to the UK yet? :/

I've been following Woot for a while now. Great site! :)

In case anybody finds it useful, you can follow their history (or get RSS feed notifications) by pointing yourself over to http://www.woot.com/blog/rss.aspx

Happy hunting!

Actually I think your title should be "woot-off still going weak".

They have been getting poorer and poorer. I used to schedule my day for the woot opening and a woot-off meant sleepless nights.

Come on, now; there's awesome stuff on there. Like, right now, there's a UV detector. For 15 dollars, you can get a device that turns CR2016 batteries into readings of CRT radiation. Of course it's going strong.

Honestly, there've been a few things I'd have jumped for, had they not been while I was asleep. Only 2 that I was awake and fast enough for, thus far. Still hoping for some boll-weevils on cotton, though. ;)

Hint for any woot newbs: use mywoot.net in a firefox sidebar, with the image off. Fits nicely, and can give audio alerts.

The thing about using the RSS feeds is. By the time I read them, it's usually to late. :P

I'm pretty sure the RSS feeds are for folks who're more interested in knowing what HAD been on woot. :)

Anyone seriously following woot would have probably either followed the web page itself or, for the really hardcore, installed the Woot Add-On for Firefox.

Haha yeah that's true. Though I tend to be a rational buyer (I try to think about my purchase for a while). Heck I'm still sitting on the idea of buying a bluetooth GPS.

So a Woot rarely gives me time to make up my mind lol.

Yeah, but there's 10 PS/2 mice on for $20 -- are you saying that if you thought long enough you wouldn't buy that? Oops, sold out! :D (Yeah, 42 units of 10 each, sold in a minute.)

see reply above - use mywoot.net

it caches from the woot server - and "predicts" how long you have to think about it.

happy wooting!

And it's OVAR!

I picked up some in-ears, a Gyration air-mouse, an inverter, and a couple kitchen-y gifts. Missed out on some other stuff, but it was cool enough. I'd like to kill all those bloody impulse-buying people who beat me out on that USB Plasma Globe, though. That was my impulse! ;)

Benson. Dude. You need some kind of consumerist (http://www.consumerist.com) help or something, man. :)

This is the way the Woot ends.
This is the way the Woot ends.
This is the way the Woot ends.
Not with a Roomba, but a bacon salt.

I bought my original N770 on a Woot last year. Great site.

and, Dan, c'mon, cut Benson some slack. We all just get caught up in the Wooting frenzy. :) 24 hours later, I'm STILL Jonesing over the Sony HTPC with the Blu-ray burner, DVR, and HD broadcast tuner. So, nice, but $800 (but down from original price of over $3000!.)

Yeah, I missed the bacon salt, too, actually. Not because I need it (bacon bits are good enough for me; I don't salt food all that much), but because... well, cause it was the end of the woot-off! It was my last chance to buy something.

Besides, it was BACON!

Glad someone understands, though. Did you get a USB Plasma Globe? (I've cooled down a bit; I won't kill anyone now. Not taking burglary off the table, though...)

Nope, by the time I admitted to myself that I WANTED the USB Plasma Globe (it's a little-known fact that Woot-offs cause a lot of personal introspection), they were gone. So it now joins other Woot-off items as another life-achievement regret. (I could devote multiple therapy sessions to missed Bags O' Crap...)

:)

heh.

I still haven't gotten a Woot! bucket, but I got a flying monkey a while back...

...and, I convinced myself that I wanted a USB Fishtank, but providence decided I did not want it.
