Hi all,
I've just got a Nokia 770 and want to get the root access.
I flash the developer rootfs successfully and it works properly. But when I use the flahser to enable the R&D mode, after the following command is finished:
./flasher --disable-rd-mode -R
Suitable USB device not found, waiting
USB device found found at bus 005, device address 029
Found board Nokia 770 (F5)
NOLO version 0.9.0
The device is now in R&D mode
The device reboot and I see extra device information on the display. But from that time, the display turns to work inproperly, a lot of vertical strips over all the content displayed all the time.
The problem still exists even I turn off the R&D mode and flash back the origianl binary.
Is the hardware bugs or software problem?

Hello.
Sorry, but I think it's a big hardware bug! Look "http://maemofr.org/viewtopic.php?id=47": you can see a screen like yours.

But, is there any method to recover it by myself? The only way is send back to make it repaired by factory?

Sorry, I don't think. On forums, the only way is to dend the tablet to Nokia

What's a pity! But I want to know whether this hardware bug will happen frequently or will definitly happen when I change to R&D mode? Because I brought it in Europe and I live in China, it's impossible for me to send it back to Nokia to repair very frequently.

I'm in R&D and never problem. But, My tablet is 7 months old and I red on forum that this problem is a recent problem. The best for you is to contact Nokia support and ask them if the reason of this failure is known and solved

I got mine a week or so ago and immediately:
- flashed it to 2006 OS beta to try. Liked it but needed some of the 2005 OS only hacks so I
- reflashed to 2005 OS
- flashed to turn on R&D mode, did changes so I could gain root even without R&D mode
- flashed to turn off R&D mode
... have since booted and rebooted many times and have had no problems... yet, at least.

i dont think its related to R&D nor Root mode because when it happened to me i wasnt neither Root or R&D as i dunno how to do it :).
i just turned on the tablet in the morning and the screen was dead...with absolutely no reason...the tablet was not even connected to the power charger. :/

I heard that this problem will mostly happen on the newest batch of 770 products, but I'm not very sure about it. I have to contact the Nokia support.

After a couple of months rebooting evrything was fine. Then I flashed the 2006 Beta and after approximately 10 times my screen went white. Delivered it at the Nokia service point 2 days ago. The had to send it in they said. Well lets wait what will happen. The white screen of death should actually be a reason for NOKIA calling all 770s back.

remain in your seat and prepare for a long long wait. I send my N770 in on June 13 and it's still not back yet and no word when it will be back.

Does anyone have the procedure for sending to Nokia UK? I just started a new job this week and they aren't going to want me sitting on the phone during the day (no doubt on hold for hours)... On their website they list all the sellers as though they are official support outlets, yeaaaah right, they won't want to help unless I am a new customer!! If it can't be sorted out in a timely fashion I will introduce the 770 to the garbage bin.
