I searched, but couldn't find the answer to this. I have a pretty big music library (20GB+) that I'd like to eventually have on my N800, but I've been trying to cut down non-essential expenses lately, so I've held off on buying a big memory card.

What I'm wondering about is if I buy a 8GB card now to put some of my music on, and then later buy a 16GB card to put the rest on...will the music players be able to see this as one big library, will I be able to hit random and play music from both cards?

I have no experience with any of the Maemo media players yet, so not sure if this is a stupid question.

Try YouAmp - I find it quite fast at start, automatically adds all my music(from both SD cards) and is simple and easy to use.

Canola does the job too, but i find it really slow to load when i have a lot of tracks.

I saw a couple of XMMS threads recently. It should bring the best experience - feature-wise, but I dont know how tablet-friendly it is.

In short, yes. Most of the media players should be able to see the two cards (and whatever is on your device memory) as one big library.

Programs like Canola and MediaBox may require setup (basically just ticking off what folders you want them to scan). The default MediaPlayer will catch all of them. Youamp can catch all of them (or you can choose the default folder).

Then there's tricks like symlinking too.

The built in media player doesn't care where the music is located, it lists and plays everything it finds under "songs".

Great news. Thanks. I'm off to order an 8GB card I guess.
