I've had several people ask me how to make themes and I have started work on several new themes I decided instead of making a new project for every theme I would make a Garage Project to put all my themes under. I also wanted to use this as a way to teach people how to make new themes. I have 3 main themes in the works right now Windows XP, Mac OSX, and Linux Mint. I have also started a collection of College Team Color thems(none of which have been released yet). If anyone is interested in helping with any of these themes, or interested in making a new theme of there own but want some help doing it contact me or join my garage project (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/themehackers/) If you don't know how to use graphic programs like photoshop but have some ideas about themes feel free to join up we might even teach you a few things. Also now all my Alpha releases of themes will be only released to registered testers on my project. If you would like to be one of the first people to try our new themes make sure you join up as tester.

This is on my list of things I want to do but just haven't gotten around to yet.
I still have so much to learn and do with the NIT since I just got it a little over a week ago.

But I am interested in the project.
I have requested to join in the garage but I just want to make sure this project will allow for learning how to first.

I know Photoshop well and have worked with/created themes/skins for WinAmp (LONG time ago), XBMC (mainly tweaks and personalizations) and Meedio.

Anyway... I hope to start diving in deeper asap.

yeah I'm more then willing to teach anyone who wants to learn. The Theme maker program is very simple to use and to design the theme you simply modify the template that comes with the theme maker.

After I accept you guys make sure to check out the forum on Garage Site.

Great idea. I have hacked up desktop GTK themes before but Hildon seems a bit unwieldy and inflexible. In many aspects the menu fuglyness is just hard coded, so it seems we need new widgets instead of just a little styling.

Sorry I have had to quit the project because I don't like the way maemo garage displays my email address.

Perhaps we should also consider creating a repo of the themes. That would allow nice updating experience to the end users.

Wouldn't using the existing Extras repository provide an even nicer updating experience to the end users?

I like that ^ idea. But, it might also be cool to have a Maemo Themes repo... Just keeping my mind open.

I wouldn't mind having a Maemo Themes repo, I haven't started putting my themes on any repos yet but I will this week. What I would really like is a Theme Section or Sub Section of the forums.

Well, maemo extras is obviously a good place, however, uploading anything there requires linux and patience. I would rather have a simpler mechanism for themes.

I have a domain tabletdownloads.com I had thought about putting a script like rapidshare.com to allow file uploads. There are times I do a quick change I want to checkout on my tablet that I don't want updated on my garage project.

so, will that allow a proper repository to happe so that people will get the SSU updates for updated themes?

The Theme maker program is very simple to use and to design the theme you simply modify the template that comes with the theme maker.

Is the Theme maker program part of your project, or where does one find it and the template you mention?

theme maker is done by konttori. You can find it on the garage.

konttori: That wouldn't give a repository with updates I would be happy to see about a repository for themes id you want

I think theme repository is the right way to go, or to host the themes in maemo extras. The big point being that people tend to develop themes incrementally and that way end users would be getting the updates to the themes all the time.

However, of course if theme is good from day 1, then that wouldn't be needed.

Yeah but as alot of my theme users know I am not the best about waiting until something is perfect to release it. I like to get input on how its coming and what I should change.

Anyone know if there's a place you can download themes that are compatible with Diablo?

There isn't a repo or even a list of all the themes out there. All of mine are compatible with Diablo and in my garage project.

Hi,

I would like to know if your themes change the widget aspect? I found that most of widgets in hildon theme are really hugly, and can't be seen clearly outside, in daylight. For example, progress bar is lightblue on white brackground!!!

I'm looking for a way to get the standard default gtk look. Is it possible through resource file (gtkrc)?

Thanks,
