Getting button press events from the "zoom" buttons when locked

Hello,

I posted this to the maemo-developers list a couple days ago but
still haven't received a response, perhaps someone here can help...

I'm currently working on a small audio player application and I'd like
to know if it's possible to get access to the "zoom" buttons (+/- on
the top-left of the n810) even when the device is locked.

The reason being that I'd like to use those to change the volume
without having to go through the process of unlocking and locking
the device each time.

I'm just posting to say that I think it'd be a great feature in all media players on the tablets. Devs? =)
