Making video player movies in VirtualDub

Can anyone tell.me what codecs and settings I need to use with VirtualDub in order to make movies I can play on the 770.

I know Media Converter will handle the encoding but afaik it won't let me chop unwanted footage of the ends.

AVI... 320 pixal width... Profile = DivXPortable

remember... unregistered yields a 2 minute sample
