I followed the instructions on the Tapioca Wiki

http://tapioca-voip.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Maemo

and I get 2 errors:

1. "unable to refresh list" when I try to refresh the application catalog. Even with that error, the tapiocaui0.3 appears in the catalog.

2. "unable to install" / "packages missing libglade 2-0" after trying to install.

Any help / suggestions appreciated..

Hi!

I'm still waiting for a SIP software which will let me use any SIP account:
- GTalk support GTalk accounts only,
- Gizmo doesn't allow me to use the "2nd account" facility as on Gizmo V2 Linux/Mac/Win releases,
- what about Tapioca? Am I wrong or it supports GTalk accounts only? When will support of "normal" SIP accounts be available?

TIA.
Laurent, in Nantes (France).

Same as point 1 to me, except I can not see anything, the list is not refreshed nor kept as the old.
Of course can not say anything about point 2.. :(

Will this solve anything about the GTalk presence that won't sign in or is it using the same system components? I'm experiencing that...

For those who are missing libglade dependency, add the maemo repository to the application catalog.

Web Address: http://repository.maemo.org
Distribution: mistral
Components: free non-free

The SIP support is planned, but we only have one person working on it and he has some other projects to take care. So it will be available as soon as possible ok?

Of course, and thanks for working on it. I guess some of us are more in a hurry than others - here in France for example, all customers of the n°2 ISP get free VOIP service with their DSL connection, and recently a SIP account was made available to go with that service. So this will be perfect for the Tablet when we have an open SIP freephone, no GTalk or Skype needed like in most other places :-)

I got error message “Unable to refresh list. Last refreshed list is shown” too. But I found Tapioca in the list. But I can’t connect. Looks like both GTalk and Tapioca doesn’t work from the office. But Gizmo works from the office.

This error message is generic and it means that one or more of your package list could not be retrieved. Unfortunatelly, the application manager does not display which specific entry generated the error.

You can investigate it using the Xterm:

> sudo /usr/sbin/gainroot
# apt-get update

I read the install instructions, added the correct repository's and it installed with no problem, login was a snap.

Question, how to I manage my contacts? Do I need another gtalk client to manage them???

Yes, if you want to manage your contacts, you need another client, like gaim for example. At this moment you are not able to manage your contacts using the Tapioca UI.

This maybe a silly question, but can anyone explain to me (and all those other users out there who cant figure it out) why I should use Tapioca over the pre-installed Gtalk client?

Thanks!

No reason in particular right now other than it is fast and has a simple interface. I haven't compared memory usage or voice quality yet so I can't comment on those.

I would guess that the SIP integration (via Sophia-SIP based on the Tapioca website) that is upcoming would make it more useful for those that have some other SIP service other than Gizmo.

And it is Open Source ... if that matters to you or you are a programmer that can help improve things.

I know of a great reason, and I may get some people upset with this, but the integrated maemo client is garbage. I am hoping that tapioca will eventually either integrate into AIM or provide a means for contact management. That said I know that some people say the googletalk client on 770 works great, it just has never worked for me. If using IPKALL googletalk client crashes when I recieve unauthorized incomming calls. This makes free incomming calls kind of worthless.

Today for the first time I was able to make outgoing calls and use my 770 for the first time to accept ANY incomming call without the application crashing.

Woo Hoo

Well that being said Tapioca is lacking when it comes to features, and it did crash one time on me, but it still is better for me than the integrated gtalk client.

Awesome job, can't wait to see future versions. And it is way cleaner than Gizmo, Gizmo seems to be really heavy on the system.

OK...Help!!!

I added the third repository (as mentioned above) for the missing libglade dependency. Now the application catalog still gives me the 'unable to refresh' error, but the list is now blank.

I am going to delete the 3 tapioca entries and see if I can refresh.

from home - Tools >Application Manager >

then when in the ap mgr, go

application mangager > tools > application catalogue > New

thn copy/paste the repository details. Finally 'refresh' the list and you're done.

Try your complete name, i.e. name@gmail.com

By the way, you other guys, how do you suppress an unused name in the list?

This repository is not functioning. Does anyone know an alternative? If not, I guess I'll just wait and see if it comes back up.
