View Full Version : WLAN disconnect on cover close

I'm not sure when exactly it started, but now when I close the cover on my device, the WLAN is dropped. I've checked and double-checked the setting to make sure it's not supposed to drop on close. I've done a 'shutdown -r now' from xterm; I've toggled and rebooted, and toggled back and rebooted again...
I had to do reflash a week or so ago after video/audio stopped working (after trying to use apt to update some of the internal system libraries).
I searched these forums, searched bugzilla, and see no other references to this issue. Is it possible the "disconnect on close" is set in a config file somewhere, and the GUI just isn't changing it for some reason (ie, an incorrect permission setting due to an install fluke)? Anyone know where I might find that setting?
anyone else having this problem? any thoughts?
thanks.

I also had this effect. But in my case toggling the flag helped.

maybe in
/etc/osso-af-init/gconf-dir/system/osso/connectivity/IAP/%gconf.xml

Thanks for the location info. I verified it was set correctly. More toggling. Still the same result. I hate the idea of reflashing... again.. after getting all the lovely applications I'm using installed and set up. The backup is nice, for the little bit that it actually does do. (I think I read somewhere about being able to backup installed programs, too, but I'll have to search for that).
Maybe in the meantime, before I give up enough to reflash, someone will have another idea that will work.

Have you tried to work some time with the flag set to 'true'? Doing some connections, closing the cover etc., so that the device thinks everyting is ok again? And only afterwards toggle the flag to 'false'?

Hi,
I am not trying to be smart here.
But if I understand your post correctly, you would not like the WLAN to be dropped when you close the cover of the Nokia 770 right ? But would you kindly explain to me as to, why you would need the WLAN ' not to ' disconnect when you closer the cover of your Nokia 770 ? How would you be able to use the Nokia 770 with the cover on ? :)

There's one thing that jumps to mind: incoming Voip-calls can only be detected with WiFi on.
Call comes in, "covered" 770 chirps, call gets answered.
Or for tracking one's moves with GPS and MaemoMapper, with the tablet safely tucked away somewhere...

Yes, having the case on while connected is indeed wanted.. for things like incoming calls, staying logged on to messengers (work, friends). Having the screen exposed when the tablet is in "use", but able to be bounced around, is just asking for trouble. And, my baby african grey seems to think it's the best looking toy sitting around right now, despite all his other colorful and shiny toys.
After a painful cycle of about 10 toggle/reboot sessions, Gizmo finally decided to behave properly about keeping my connection intact. I'm not sure why the measly 2 or 3 I'd done before didn't do the trick, but maybe the battery popping I did last night also gave it the muchly needed kick in the rump.
So, happy camper. No reflashing required (yet.. not for this problem), and lan stays connected.
