Hi,

Just and idea.. as the Nokia 770 is getting more and more apps every day, it would be nice to have a website (similar to freshmeat or tucows) with a database catalog that lists all of the aplications for the 770, (sorted by type).
Each entry would provide a description of the software, a link to download it, a link to the homepage of the developer, and a small history of the project's releases...

Could it be done here at Internet Tablet Talk ?

best regards,
;)

Yes, we are in the process of doing that already. We have noticed that there are a lot of links already from Maemo's application page that link back to the itT's blog, evn to forum threads. A download section will be a great feature where developers and members can just keep on adding entries and add comments.

Give us a week or two. :D

Thanks!

it could be better with a repository :)
with repository, we can use apt-get or synaptic to install directly on the nokia 770 (without computer) and we can upgrade applications easily :)

Synaptic is a "GUI for apt-get"
If we don't use the power of debian, why we use it on maemo ?

Yes and no. Debian (maemo is based on it) has browser of packages on their website. But the main idea of the application presented is different: you choose a package (an application) and the app checks the dependencies of the selected package and marks the needed packages to be installed/updated also. Then you hit "Update" button and the performs all the actions automatically: uninstalls obsoleted packages, downloads all new packages and installs them.

i see maemo 1.1 is out, i didn't test it but there is maybe apt in it.
maemo 1.1 is not for users, there is no nokia binaries installed (opera...).
