Just got my 770 on Ebay, want it purely to read ebooks, nothing else. Cannot access the internet with it, using DLan plugs to network round my home. Don't own a blue tooth phone. Tried to install "FBreader" via my computer into the 770 but it doesn't show in applications. Is it possible to install this way? If not, is there any other method? Please help,I am in deepest France, without access to English libraries.

You can download a deb file and then run
sudo gainroot
dpkg -i name_of_debfile.deb

Are you saying you don't have wireless lan? Any free LAN anywhere nea?

If using os2006 download these files and transfer to 770 via usb:

Open Application Manager use install from file in the menu to install above files

Since you just purchased a used 770 I would suggest Re-Flashing it so that you know that you have a clean OS install

Thanks guys, have managed to install it and it works!!!!!!! However, the next problem is that I cannot set the default path to downloaded books," My Docs/books/media/mmc1/books" Fb Reader just does not find them. My memory card does not show in any menu, where should I be looking? Also whats the danger of flashing the Tablet. Found loads of photos of a realy ugly family.

Flashing the tablet will take it back to a pristine, fresh from the factory state. No harm other than any customizations you have done to it so far (network settings, fbreader load, etc).

The flash card should show up in the file manager, do you see it there?

If your books are on the mmc card then the path would be:
/media/mmc1/books

If your books are in FB2 format FB will automatically populate the library (not sure of other formats) otherwise you will need to manually install them
