View Full Version : RSS feed for new packages in Extras/-devel/...?

Is there any site out there that offers an RSS feed for new/updated packages at least for Extras, maybe even for a number of repositories incl. extras-devel?
I follow the gentoo-ebuild-feeds this way. Not that I'd need it, but it's nice to know that when I'm home, a new version of Firefox or Gnome will wait for me.
Having the same for the N800 would be cool. Again, not necessary, maybe not even useful, but I'd certainly add it to my feeds if it's out there somewhere.
Anybody knows such a feed?

Not a feed, but you can subscribe to extras-cauldron-builds (https://garage.maemo.org/pipermail/extras-cauldron-builds/) for that will email you on a packages' status that had been sent to extras-devel.
Downsides:
You'll get mails for the packages that failed too
It will send you both chinook and diablo, if the uploader chose to upload to both, emails.
I imagine that your Inbox would get cluttered pretty quickly.

Isn't there already a process running on the NITs (well, the ones with updated OS's that use SSU) that checks every 24 hours or so for updated packages?

In fact, learning about that list (an seeing the logs online) made me first think of how nice such an RSS would be. I didn't subscribe to the list because of all the downsides you mention. It just doesn't give me what I want (extras above all), but gives me a lot of unwanted noise.

On my tablet, yes. But it doesn't show here in the office or wherever I am without my tablet.
Also, while this mechanism actively informs me about updates of software I have installed, it doesn't do so for new packages that become available or updates of software I don't have installed.

You could file an enhancement request (https://bugs.maemo.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Website&version=unspecified&component=Repositories&rep_platform=All&op_sys=All&priority=Low&bug_severity=enhancement&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&alias=&bug_file_loc=http%3A%2F%2F&short_desc=&comment=SOFTWARE%20VERSION%3A%0D%0A%28Control%20Pa nel%20%3E%20General%20%3E%20About%20product%29%0D% 0A%0D%0ASTEPS%20TO%20REPRODUCE%20THE%20PROBLEM%3A% 0D%0A%0D%0AEXPECTED%20OUTCOME%3A%0D%0A%0D%0AACTUAL %20OUTCOME%3A%0D%0A%0D%0AREPRODUCIBILITY%3A%0D%0A% 28always%2Fsometimes%2Fonce%29%0D%0A%0D%0AEXTRA%20 SOFTWARE%20INSTALLED%3A%0D%0A%0D%0AOTHER%20COMMENT S%3A%0D%0A%0D%0AUser-Agent%3A%20%20%20%20%20%20%20Mozilla%2F5.0%20%28Ma cintosh%3B%20U%3B%20Intel%20Mac%20OS%20X%2010.5%3B %20en-US%3B%20rv%3A1.9.0.8%29%20Gecko%2F2009032608%20Fir efox%2F3.0.8&commentprivacy=0&keywords=&dependson=&blocked=&maketemplate=Remember%20values%20as%20bookmarkable %20template&form_name=enter_bug&assigned_to=marcell.lengyel%40nokia.com&qa_contact=repositories%40maemo.bugs).

I'm not sure about an enhancement request. I would certainly use it if it existed, but if I had to decide for myself if the outcome is worth the effort, I'd close this enhacement request as WONTFIX myself right away.
Or is there anybody else who would like to subsribe to such a feed? (Given it's really not available anywhere yet.)

You could file an enhancement request (https://bugs.maemo.org/enter_bug.cgi&component=Repositories&bug_severity=enhancement).
Today's lesson is in cleaning up Bugzilla URLs. :p
Try: https://bugs.maemo.org/enter_bug.cgi&component=Repositories&bug_severity=enhancement
(Again, I'm aware that the OP wont be reading this post, but I figured it might be useful for anybody else reading the thread who happens to want the same feature.)
Anyway, there are plans to integrate this feature into Application Manager at some point, and it's likely to involve RSS feeds at some point, so there's little harm in requesting them a little early.

Yeah, yeah. I'm just lazy and like cut and paste. You paying by the byte down there in Florida?

And since I'm already quoting one part of your message, I figure I'll give benny a peek at how nice you can be.

Right. I was a bit slow this morning. I thought about that after posting....I'll just be over here....

This might be obvious and not exactly what you are asking, but maybe still interesting: http://maemo.org/downloads/updated/OS2008/25/ has a feed.

Done (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4244). If nothing else, it should help my karma. ;)
(enhancement requests do count, don't they? otherwise i'll go and make it a bug against... mhm... modest!)
