Quoting Dave in the maemo-community list:

So let me open the floor to comments - my goal is to get a list of issues blocking deployment of the new site, based on feedback.

Can anyone who has some time please have a look at newstyle.maemo.org, and let us know what issues they have with the site (design, implementation or functional issues), please?

To get ye started, there's a list in the wiki at
http://wiki.maemo.org/Task:Implement_new_maemo.org_layout_and_style#Chec klist
(that page contains a pretty good suppary of where Neithan & Niels think each page is currently too).

Keep in mind that we are looking now for SHOWSTOPPERS for a release of the new design. Also, it's too late for radical ideas of total change. Thanks!

Just to make it easier to navigate to that page (instead of c&p):

Here's an error.
If you navigate to an application "home page" in the download section (one app that does not have 5 stars), the "gray" stars appear as regular "*" characters instead of gray star images.
I am not sure if this checklist applies to this, but I post it anyway:

# Need 1/2, 1/4 & 3/4 star images (Glaubert)

(UPDATE: actually seems like it's just the first gray star image that is not appearing: http://newstyle.maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/phonelink/ and only for the if the previous star is yellow: http://newstyle.maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/mapdownloader/)

The titles header in the News sections is not left aligned.
Couldn't see it in the checklist.

Actually looks like it's missing the author image. Could it be related to this?

# Implement template for authors of news items (Niels/Neithan)

The XHTML is not syntactically valid (http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fnewstyle.maemo.org). Until/unless it is, the whole class of "browser x does foo" issues can't be dealt with effectively.

Personally, I think that reviewing the site is just a little bit too early.

As seen by the posts above, people tend to notice things that are already on the http://wiki.maemo.org/Task:Implement_new_maemo.org_layout_and_style#Chec klist list.

So it is nice to get feedback, but also a waste of time to go through duplicate reports (for both reporter and us).

So, mixed feelings ;) But let's see where we end up..

Probably would it better to first identify the real showstoppers from the checklist and fix them as higher priority ?

For example the gray icon is not a showstopper for me, while the news one is.

If no other mayor showstopper appears after the fix, than it could be put live and fix issues as they appear.

Thanks for the report anidel. Indeed, it is the partial_star_**.gif images that are missing which is the problem, you can see this by checking the source for the offending pages. For SelectionSource, for example, the stars are shown with the HTML:

<img src="http://static.maemo.org/style_maemo2009/img/star_over.png" alt="*"><img src="http://static.maemo.org/style_maemo2009/img/star_over.png" alt="*"><img src="http://static.maemo.org/style_maemo2009/img/star_over.png" alt="*"><img src="http://static.maemo.org/style_maemo2009/partial_star_75.gif" alt="*"><img src="http://static.maemo.org/style_maemo2009/img/star_normal.png" alt=" ">

Cheers,
Dave.

Not strictly related to the maemo.org style and I dont know how hard could be to adapt to the current database: why don't introduce a color codes for the classic download arrow for each OS version? Next coming tablet will introduce a lot of portings and maybe we could have on same page more download arrows for same app but for different OS, + the colors codes could be used like a general theme to clearly identify which os a page is related to (forums, wikipages etc)

You can also see the new style of maemo.org by going to a non-existent page.

For instance, http://maemo.org/talk/

In the Events it'd be much easier to add iCalendar support. Readers can then add these easier in your agenda, or inform someone about the event by sending the .ics. I've made an example for the Mozilla/Maemo Denmark developer meeting (http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=277093#post277093).

Quoting Tim Samoff in the maemo-community list:

I finally had a chance to move all of the newstyle Checklist items over
to Bugzilla. I've also been adding new items. You can see all open
requests here:

If you'd like to help test the site and help us get it ready for launch,
please search the current list before posting.
