... in it, so that if the case is closed, the 770 goes to sleep?

I would like to get a better case (better than the default metal slider), but I do not want to experiment with a home made magnet solution...

THanks for any comments...

I saw some nice little leather cases on ebay but I wonder the same.
I wish double tap on the power would implement sleep transition

It took me all of eight seconds to stick an adhesive magnet in the right spot on my Brando case (http://thoughtfix.blogspot.com/2006/08/brando-case-review.html)

Where did you put the magnet? Outside: is it not easily falling off?

Inside: it could scratch the 770, or not?

Can you please post a picture?

Where did you get the magnet from?

Thanks for sharing this info!

Can I recommend maybe two strips of Black Electrical Tape , just for that "Asthetic" pleasure.?

BTW, I have the same leather case and it just made me think. I get so many of these ads from Realtors, Lawyers and Plumbers that come with their Business card on a flexible magetic backing. Im going to try and cut a piece and use my Electrical Tape solution right now and see how we look.

Also, we ( Forum participants) have been looking to design and help bring to market a case with one of the major Personal electronics case manufacturers, using input and suggestions from those in this Forum. That is still alive and well. (Sorry no timeframe to date) They have been busy designing some new and more popular wireless device releases and, of course, the NOKIA 770 is not as popular and has been placed a bit on the back burner so to speak. But it has been strongly suggested, and noted, that the magnet is a must have in the proposed case.

I tried one of those; they appear to be not strong enough to trigger the switch in the 770 (or I had a particularly weak piece).

Of all the time I had my Nokia 770, I didn't know where the magnet puts the device to sleep, until now... Wow! I learn something new, everyday!

I sort of thought the whole point of a leather (or faux leather) case was the aesthetics. Frankly, I think the original slide cover looks infinitely better than any kind of tape holding a magnet to the cover.

There is also the classy (seriously!) drawstring bag with Nokia on it. Keeps off the scratches and gives an element of drama when you pull it out in an airport.

Get a little rare earth magnet from Radioshack (2 in a blister pack) They are very skinny and you can use in on the inside of the case . Works great, been using it that way all week! I used a little black tape but I might as well epoxy it in place now that I have verified positioning and operation.

I think avoiding drama is a much wiser course of action in an airport these days...

Yeah, aflegg has a point. An element of drama might lead you to a questioning cell kept in an unknown location for an undetermined amount of time and then it's just not funny anymore.

Luna, thanks for the suggestion on the magnets from Radio Shack! Those probably don't scream "magnet" quite as much, especially if it's on the inside.

these magnets are very very small.i even thought of making a small cut and implanting it an clean it up with a leather repair kit.

I agree, I never dramatically withdraw my 770 from it's bag in the security line. That is best done whilst waiting for the flight after the security screen.

...however, whatever you do, never say, "Damn thing bombed again!" anywhere at the airport.

I wouldn't use the word "crash", either. ;)

What's needed is a case that has the magnet mounted in a slide switch, so that the user can enable/disable sleep as he chooses. Only thing to watch out for is sliding the magnet to an area where it can damage components, especially the screen or worse, memory.
