Hi,
I want to remap some keys of the hardware keyboard on the N810.
I know I have to change the settings in rx-44 (nokia keymap) but don't know about the right changes.
I want to change the German standard layout for some keys:
Fn + Backspace = Tab(ulator)
Fn + Space = Pipe |
And if possible: Ctrl + 1...0 (mean Ctrl+q, Ctrl+w, Ctrl+e, ...) for F1 to F10
Tabulator:
key <BKSP> { [ BackSpace, BackSpace, Tab, BackSpace ] };
Pipe:
key <SPCE> { [ space, space, Bar, space ] };
Will Tab and Pipe work with this settings?
But how can I change to get F-Keys to work? Maybe:
key <AD01> { [ q, Q, 1, F1 ] };
Thx & regards,
Frank

Okay, I have tested my configuration described above. Bar (Pipe) and Tab are working as desired. :)
Well, Function Keys do not. :confused: I need the F-Keys for Midnight Commander (mc)... Any Hints? :)

Frank

Midnight Commander has a function-key escape mechanism, if that's the only thing you need it for. ESC 3 is F3, ESC 9 is F9, etc. You can also peck with the stylus at the list on the bottom.

Yes, mc (and mcedit of course) are the main reason for F-keys for me. I know about the ESC-shotcuts but I have read I could use ESC-key (the back-arrow key below the task switcher key on the left side of the N810) but if I press this key, mc closes immediately. So I have to use the ESC-Label on the screen with FN- and number key on the keyboard or use the stylus with the labels on mc. Well I feel it very distracting and would like so se a keyboad-only solution.

You can map something different to fourth column. It is a bit tricky to press but quite easy once learned. 4th column is shift+fn, you can do it by holding left shift with left thumb and then rock your thumb to press fn too while still holding shift. I have F-keys to shift+fn+qwertyuiop, I also have curly braces, brackets and other essentials for writing C code mapped like this. The only catch is that both m and n keys produce the other one as phantom key when pressed with shift+fn. All other keys are fine. But I still use those too and delete the other one if needed (but it is actually good thing for paired brackets :-)
EDIT: just to clarify, one needs to press shift first and then fn key, when fn is first, shift seems to be ignored. Also, the keymap file is /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/nokia_vndr/rx-44 just in case :-)

and confirmation (and warnings) in advance always help !
<><>mmm (sorry, just simulated)
Problem ? :
ITT Wiki page has a link on "Customizing Keyboard Keys" pointing to Maemo Wiki ,
But I could not find about "rx-44" there.
