music recording app

any app that can record music streaming direct from the web-not thru the mic--how hard would it be to build such app to work with say media player or mplayer

i am using the streamripper already--but how do you use it outside streamtuner

Also consider
mplayer -dumpstream stream_url -downstream filename
(this won't divide the stream in single files for single tunes as streamripper can be taught to do)

where in the mplayer conf would you insert command
