As a few of you might know, I injured my hand recently (working my fingers to the bone..)

xray: http://liqbase.net/fingerfriendly.jpg

http://liqbase.net/finger_macro.jpg real pic, no thumbnail (literally lol) and lots of stitches.
you have to want to see it, its quite nasty and I look like ET.

I have been considering asking the good doctors to upgrade me.

we have already considered getting a retractable stylus fitted. but I wonder if there are any other devices or attachments a maemo person should have.

Apparantly the finger itself is like a tardis, its currently upto about double its normal size, so we can choose even seemingly impractical items to go in there.

I would think a retractable stylus, a USB storage device, and a display panel made into a bionic fingernail should work quite nicely.

Well done for keeping your spirits up after your injury!

Roger

I was reading a while back about some people that are getting natural magnets implanted so they can detect magnetic fields with their fingertips. That could be quite fun.

eiffel,
cool - a fingernail display ui would be novel
it would make an excellent watch.

as for keeping my spirits up - strong finnish medicine :)

that magnet idea is intruiging
I should sprinkle some neodymium powder in there.

yeah i know the usb drive guy, missed a trick though :P

I'm considering getting a camera/sensor so i can read barcodes with a quick swipe!

Wow. I believe that Jerry Jalava is a former Nemein developer and the author of the now defunct maemo.org community calendar...

At the very least, get your finger bones replaced with adamantium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolverine_%28comics%29).

I don't think you lost enough of your finger to do that, so you probably can't do what I want either; I would definitely think about a package of sensors (camera at least), memory, and some kind of wireless connectivity. A Linux kernel, and you should have an on-board web server for remote configuration and uploading the video stream from the camera and info from the other sensors. You'd need a battery too.
