Do you mean booting the device strictly as a media player?
I dunno if it would be of much avail, since Canola, like any other app, needs most of the OS's components up and running to work, and if they're going to open anyway, it would take very little less to boot a Canola-only interface than it would to kick-off the whole OS.
A cool suggestion tho would be to make Canola the default media player for future releases, leaving to the user to decide where he would want it to search for files (maybe mandatory on first use?), thus removing need for that damn metacrawler ram-eating thing =))
given how canola have been mutating (didnt someone work on integrating IM into it recently?), replacing hildon-desktop with it could work.
not that i would use it tho, i prefer my media players more simple in guii terms...
