I'm one of the N900 pre-order people... have looked at a lot of screen shot photos ( thank you the ones who posted these i.e. MaemoGuy on Flikr http://www.flickr.com/photos/42299489@N08/page3/ , but cannot see MP adjustments like Shuffle, but especially a Equalizer, this worries me quite a bit.
are not these functions available ?

No eq currently. It plays what it plays, and it does it pretty well.

How about scrobbling to last.fm? Is that included?

So, for the equalizer:

Maemo 5 use PulseAudio for sound sever, and it are an equalizer.
See more here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578

good, it will be necessary to create a GUI, but it is feasible.

But for the battery, it will be useful to optimize for the DSP.

Canola at least scrobbles to last.fm.

In Diablo, Maemoscrobbler would pick up the songs being played by Media Player and send them to the last.fm server. Pretty sure that it would only need minor changes to have it running and working in Maemo 5.

Thank you but that is WAY over my knowledge level, I am a simple user that likes to have a simple UI, no hard coding, do hope that someone will put some efforts into it. I really like to have a EQ, but do not need other gizmos as 3D or sound improvers... ( compressors)

Shuffle is there: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42299489@N08/3896173092/

You can do this per album basis or for your entire collection.

But, you're right. No EQ.

I think he wants a graphic equalizer and stereo widening as options in the media player. Though the english is sadly so masacred I could be wrong.

probably you've never read an italian trying to write in english (exluding the few italian people that can write proper english (i'm italian o.o) )
i found that understandable.
he wants a equalizer in the media player.

It would help if people would learn to Capitalize and add comas and dots etc... It makes the text much easier to read. Maybe a new line as well.

And yeah I haven't yet met many Italians online that were able to use English. The few I have generally used it great while those that couldn't rarely bothered with English and just stuck to Italian :)

Anyway OT so I'll shut up and go to something less productive :)

The average person never uses EQ when listening to music. They probably just wanted to spend their time on something that more people would use... though I wouldn't be surprised if something like this could be added by a 3rd party if they were so inclined.

uh, guys, he's right there. Why not talk s''t about him while buying him a beer or something. I understand you, brother. I think you should hold off until you hear how the player sounds before declaring the need for the EQ and stereo separation effect.

Guys, I am the one who started this thread, I do not take offense, but you should not slaughter above guy that is expressing himself in another language than his mother tounge.

I use my trusty old N95 daly and I can tell you that I may be different than you guys, but I use my media player in a lot of different ways, Blutooth Headset BH-503, in car by cable ( better sound than RF) the built in speakers when on travel.
I use the EQ with my personal presets to be able to improve the sound.
maybe you guys think video playuback or games is really important, I don't give a crap, but I really like to be able to optimize the sound.

what I try to say, is everybody have their own opinions of things that are important to them in a device, it is a free world let us keep it that way.
please let us not start a flame war

Amen, brother.

I agree with your message of peace, but I need to point out that starting a thread doesn't give you ownership of it :)

I agree...I claim no ownership of nothing....maybe my words came out wrong as English is not my mother tounge either,

Cannot wait to start using the N900 as a Netbook & "Do it All" killer replacement.

Someone knows where to find an equalizer on the N900 ?

Thank you in advance

Sadly, there isn't one (yet)!

It has been suggested one may be added at a later date though.

Even the gsmarena review shows the N900 is a little weak on the high end- just as I posted before in my "review" last Thursday.

The N900 needs a hardware based EQ (that uses the freq function within the chipset) to make up for this. Then again, if you have nothing else to compare it to or use lower quality buds, you will probably not notice.

I pick up less definition of cymbal sound decay in certain songs just as an example. I hear this fine with my G1, Gmini 402 and Zen 32gb, but miss it on the N900.

The statement about not needing a hardware EQ is correct IF the sound signature is natural and not missing something in frequency. The N900 is missing some high end frequency definition.

added:

Example: All of my devices sound about the same using the stock N900 buds and the ones that came with my Zen- the sound is constrained due to the source for listening. I notice the difference when using my UE's and Vmoda Vibes (metal version).

Vote for this bug (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6293). Maybe it'll be less ignored

Quick question: Are there any EQ options for the audio player? I cant seem to find any...

The sound is pretty cool already, dont get me wrong, but I like Breaks and Drum and Bass, which could do with a boost.

I don't know if any Nokia officials read these forums but here I go anyway.

Nokia, for the love of god, in your next update PLEASE add the option to play files by browsing the folders in the media player. This would make life so much easier.
An equalizer would be extremely useful as well. Those to BASIC features are whats stopping this device from being a multimedia powerhouse.

You might want to request a mod change your thread title to something specific to your request.

No need for a mod to do that :)

Hmm that's weird I edited the title but it still hasn't changed..
Oh well, never mind.

MediaBox (in extras-testing, I believe) has that feature.

(Off-topic) So, if one does want Nokia to notice a request like this ... It can't go into bugzilla, because it's too much of an enhancement, but it seems wrong for a brainstorm, because there's not much to brainstorm about it. Long-timers, where would you file this request?

I use mediabox. the downside is that it's more resource heavy than the default media player. It drains my battery life relatively fast. Also it takes about 1 to 2 seconds to switch between songs. It's kind of a bummer when you're listening to an album.

The thread "A plea to Nokia" with three posts has been merged into this thread.

Is there already a Brainstorm for adding an equalizer to the media player? If not, one should be created. It's been a frequent request since at least Maemo 3, if not earlier.

That is my question too, is there already a brainstorm for an equalizer function or a bug request? I would vote for that.

An equalizer would be extremely useful as well. Those to BASIC features are whats stopping this device from being a multimedia powerhouse.
You can browse using the filemanager and click an audio file to get it playing in the Media Player.
And there is an equalizer available, just not so easy to install (and I'm unsure about suport for PR1.1": http://blogs.igalia.com/jasuarez/2009/10/21/mafw-renderer-plugin-with-equalizer/
