Installing software procedure ?

I don't mean to be silly or anything but I'm kind of new to this maemo/linux thing.
I'd like to know the procedure to install this downloaded software (gpe-contacts_0.37m2-2.tar.gz) on my Nokia 770 ?

I think you can better use the .deb installer packages. See for example this page: http://oss.kernelconcepts.de/maemo/app-install.shtml
